Tell me about it. I thought it was after reading it back but I can't make sense of anything. Give me a break Roe. It's 4 o'clock and I've been up for 20 hours+, I'm ****ing knackered.
Ward bores the judges till they can take no longer after 6 rounds. Enzo Calzaghe has to employ similar tactic's used in the Maccarnelli v Haye fight in order to get his fighter into shape so instead of the traditional water bottle uses a 330ml can of Coke Vanilla. This ensures that Calzaghe can at least stay awake until the 9th round. By the 9th however Calzaghe is still out of his depth and with the judges still sleeping on there cards Calzaghe swings with a big right which Ward ducks underneath, which, surprisingly is the highlight of the fight. Hardcore fight fans take to the forums to explain how Ward has executed the sweet science to perfection and won't be able to cross over to mainstream because he isn't exciting enough. There right as they continue to stay behind the forums and proclaim his greatness, as only a handful of fans turn up to Ward's mega showdown in a style which the "purists" will surely be fascinated by. Andre Ward v Andre Dirrell "Battle of the Dre's"
Didn't see tonights fight, but Ward looked tired towards the end apparently, I think Joe would have him really struggling to keep pace from 9/6 - especially if Ward starts fast to try build up a lead early. Calzaghe is a different animal to anyone in the S6, and his adaptability, and plain awkwardness - impossible to really predict/prepare for just makes him too tough for Ward. I reckon it'd be a VERY ugly fight though.
Calzaghe was just as quick in the mind and in anticipating shots as Ward is. Maybe even better. - His footwork was underrated. - He mixed offense and defense extremely well. - Adjusts on the fly. - His workrate and stamina was off the charts. Match better then Ward who throws too many single shots to catch Calzaghe enough. - He was good on the inside and at the edge of range. Also physically very strong and was just as subtle as Ward. - Awkward style that he mastered, which was very difficult to read and understand. Tbh, it's the worst stylistic match-up for Ward that you can think of. I think JC Wales would be a nightmare for him. Prime Calzaghe wins a 8-4 type of decision.
The only man in the super 6 that had any kind of pedigree from the start that hadn't already be destroyed by Calzaghe was Ward. Why exactly would Calzaghe fear the rest again?
Well lets say if the betting was around 2/1 for a Ward win as the poll at the moment suggests, I'd be more than quite happy to stick a fair bit of money on him at such outside odds. Froch was similar odds to beat Ward, as was Hatton to beat Mayweather, as Ward is here to beat Calzaghe: I'd have some of that. Ward is more than quite arguably better than anyone Calzaghe ever beat in the state he met them, in fact by some distance apart from perhaps old man Hopkins coming off Taylor losses.
Voted for joe by accident :-( Ward is superior to joe in every way bar fitness. His wins over froch and kessler are better than joe's over lacy and kessler. Does ward have 3rd or 4th wins as good as mitchell or reid? No he doesn't. Give him bute, dirrel, kessler and froch as his next 4 and he has the goat smw resume.
Yep. Joe wasn't great defensively and Ward is very good. Ward would be able to parry the bulk of Joe's offense from the outside / mid-range while getting the better of him on the inside in the clinches - busting him up with shorter, straighter, and more varied punches.
Would love Smokin Joe to come back at 40 and light Ward up. He has the speed, stamina and most importantly skills. He'd box, fight him on the inside, trade fast combos with him. It would be special.
