You dont need to, but the point is about fairness. Ward is expected to beat a 39 year old SMW at LHW, but for that opponent to have around 6 weeks notice only, does seem short for what would be a big chance for him. How much notice did Barrera or Smith have? I dont think it was a great deal and it gives an advantage to the fighter knowing to train for a date. As said, I have thought this with some Wilder opponents, but have also said I may not be in the know for when these fights were announced
August 6 is 6 1/2 weeks from today. Unless the date has been moved to the end of July he had more than 5 weeks notice even if he found out he was getting the fight when we did.
Hmm. I was hoping Ward would have another fight before Kovalev but I don't know if this guy will be enough to prepare him. I've always favoured Ward against anyone from 160-175 (although only slightly against Sergei) but if he performs like he did last time ... he's in trouble. Regardless of who he faces though, another fight can only be a good thing. Along with Gonzalez-Estrada II, this is the best fight that can be made between two top 10 boxers.
He gave a far less refined version of Badou Jack a hard time some years ago. But he's pretty small at 168 so...
I don't think people remember how tough Ward had it in the Bika fight. This is probably the best tune-up Ward could get, he needs to improve his offense when he gets forced into an awkward brawl. He's awesome timing traditional fighters, but Kova isn't that traditional. Oh, and are you guys feeling embarrassed/annoyed with this Shockmaster freak? It's like an angry austic kid found a broken record.
dont really give a damn, as long as hes fighting kovalev next... i dont watch ward for entertainment.
