Always said it and I will say it again. Beterbiev is the worst style matchup for Ward possible. When you clinch him you pay, as he's stronger and hits extremely hard at a short distance. Ward's commentary on a Beterbiev fight kinda told you Ward knew this as well.
Jesus, don't make everybody sad thinking about the one that got away, the one that could never be ... The answer to this is seen in Ward's rapid exit after the Kov 2 fight. If he thought he could beat Beterbiev, he would have taken the fight to add to his legacy. Beterbiev would hunt him down, walk through anything, eventually catch him on the inside during an inevitable clinch (though Ward would be on his bike more than usual) and with bludgeoning hooks and uppercuts, Beter would put Ward into fuzzy land. Ward would rise with that goofy-cocky grin he had in Kov 1. But Beter would feel dishonoured by such smugness and punish Ward brutally, ripping the clinching Ward off as though handling a child, then detonating combinations into Ward's face until Ward was no more, just an inert heap on the canvas. To celebrate his victory, Beterbiev would stroll from the arena wearing Ward's signature school backpack while giving patronising interviews in aloof style.
Andre Ward retired early to duck Usyk and Beterbiev. You see one can remain undefeated if you know how to play game
I would pick ward. A close possibly controversial points decision. Ward gets battered by usyk though.
I was watching ward on some dudes interview show. What I find interesting is that he was a one armed fighter up until they surgically improved his arm years later. He had the strength and dirtiness in the clinch of a two armed fighter. Speaking of injuries Daniel Jacobs was the real deal. This guy is magic. He came back from bone cancer and said he wanted to keep his suffering quiet. Those who have had a major injury know how to fake the funk. I had him winning against ggg but I had him losing against ishe Smith. There's another fight on his resume that I think he won (maybe canelo) but i forgets now who it was.
Tough fight Ward decision. Beterbiev has gotten a tad overrated lately. He's a good fighter but he can be put down. He has more of a vulnerability factor than Kovalev did in his prime.
Beterbiev is a stylistic nightmare for any fighter who's major strength is trench warfare and in the clench.
Beterbiev is the wrong style for Ward. As a clinching fighter you want to be stronger than the other guy. Beterbiev looks like a cruiser shredding himself to make LHW. He's the last guy you want to grapple. What's more he generates power with short punches. Ward would get mauled.
Would love to see Beterbiev beat the **** out of that ****ing ******* and give him some elbows too as sweet justice for what he did to Bika
