What's with the "he was leaving himself so open" claim, anyway? He ditched the jab, came around with a right hand but got sliced by Foster's downward right at the same time, throwing him off balance. Even still, he was covering up with his right at the same time Foster tagged him with the left hook that he was in perfect position for. He just got beat to it. Fighters tend to get hit with punches in fights, people.
So what? Thomas Tate went 12 rounds with Julian Jackson, and Roy Jones KO'd him with one punch, the only time he was ever stopped. Foster was a naturally bigger man than Tiger, who was at the tail end of his career. Foster doesn't have any significant size advantage over Ward. He's taller and longer but Ward is about 180 in the ring. And since we're on the subject of chins, Foster had a brittle glass jaw. Doug Jones beat the **** out of Foster and Foster was dropped in other fights as well.
Ward would be well aware of Foster's left hook and wouldn't get into a mid-range shoot out with him like Tiger did.
If you think 38 year old Tiger had reflexes even close to Wards you are deluded, is this easy fight NO but its not easy for either fighter, some of you guys underestimate Ward here, he is not old former middleweight he is about the same size as Foster, and would not get hit by those shots and go watch this round not just this gif Tiger pretty much tried to trade here something Ward would never do. Ward UD for me in a hard fight.
I'll go ahead and shoot it out with the both of you. As far as the sizes: Foster- 6'3, 79' reach. Fought at Heavyweight a good deal. Ward- 6'0, 71' reach. Yet to fight at Lt. Heavyweight. As far as Foster's chin: The only time he was ever stopped was against Heavyweights that he had a clear strength/weight disadvantage against. The lone exceptions being the Doug Jones bout (and he was still the lighter man) in his 10th career fight and the Wasajja bout at the very end of his career when he was no longer really relevant, and that fight ended with an injury. Glass jaw my ass. As far as the styles match-up. Ward would do a lot better to try to stand inside, spoil, and trade in close with Foster (Ward is quite good at this, actually). Tiger was actually giving him trouble with this strategy until Foster lowered the boom. You really think boxing on the outside against Bob ****in' Foster is the smart tactic? A smaller man trying to beat one of the rangiest fighters with one of the best jabs in Lt. Heavyweight history through slick boxing? No, you take away the initiative and don't allow him to control the center of the ring, which rest assured, he will do if you fight that way. Either way, Ward's proven nothing to think he can beat essentially the Thomas Hearns-esque nightmare match-up at Lt. Heavyweight.
You do make some good points, but you are talking like I'm saying its easy fight for Ward. Ward would try to disrupt him on the inside but would not trade, pay attention when watxhing his fights he just doesnt risk anything does everything by the book, amazing how he is very good at everything, but because he just goes "safe" many find him boring while he is boxing genius there is not a single thing he doesnt do well, Foster had great power but this fight would go to distanceFoster would not stop Ward, Ward would posiblly make this a dull fight with alot of clinches but i see him winning UD.
That's a deception, I already explained why. Doug Jones was not a heavyweight, he was hardly any bigger than Andre Ward. And he beat the **** out of Foster. The way that Foster nuthuggers try to ignore this or make excuses for it is disgraceful. Foster was also dropped in other fights. In fact, Foster never beat a decent power puncher in his career.
Ward is an exceptional fighter. One of few modern guys I really look at and think highly of. Not a big fan of the modern era because of the lack of talent (for the most part), but that doesn't jade me into being unable to spot a quality fighter when I see one. Ward is that. I just think there's a jump in class here. Foster's range, javelin jab, and the inhuman torque he put into his scythe-like punches spells doom for damn near every Lt. Heavyweight in history, if you ask me. He's one of the most imposing head to head figures in the history of the weight class, if not the most. I acknowledge Ward's skills, they are plentiful. But a smaller man who lacks fight changing power, is unproven at the weight, and is primarily a tactical boxer just doesn't seem like a credible recipe for tackling this challenge. This is no slate on Ward at all. To say that a Super Middleweight loses to maybe the most physically imposing Lt. Heavy of all time. I'd have the same result if we were talking about Roy Jones vs Bob Foster.
He's still a good deal smaller than Foster. Especially if they're allowed 24 hour weigh-ins. I repeat: it was his 10th pro fight. His first real step up in class. I figure maybe you'd lend that some leeway. But sure, if you want to believe that was a prime Foster, fair enough. That's the same Doug Jones that wobbled Ali on multiple occasions and just barely lost the decision to him, by the way. I guess Ward beats Ali, too. A. In a fight with Ward, that means precisely: DICK. B. Henry Hank Thanks for playing.:good
Oh, and aside from the obvious Ali and Frazier bouts, Foster was only ever once briefly put down, in a fight he went on to win by stoppage.
How the hell is Foster the most physically imposing LHW of all time? That's ridiculous. Foster's anorexic looking ass was 175 in the ring. Guys today at LHW are often over 190. Ward is about 180. Roy Jones was 182-185 in the ring in his prime. That's cause you're an old time nutbag. :yep Jones clowns Foster and tears his glass jaw off his face.
