What fight were you watching?? :-(

AA had some modest success in the first few rounds, and after that he had scarcely landed at all. That said, even in the opening rounds of the bout (AA"s best), he was not landing authoritatively on Ward.

Ward wins 7 rounds, Froch 4, and one devolves into a clinch-headbutt affair not worthy of my scoring.

Not at all, I just judge him fairly on his last few fights without getting suckered into the hype like most of the lemmings on here.

He didnt impress me at all against AA who Froch completely shut down. Was repeatedly tagged. He looked clumsy against Bika and couldn't hurt a very average Allan Green who went on to be knocked out by an old man in his next fight. Kessler is his best win and we all know what happened there. He's yet to fight anyone but a total bum outside of California, although I think mental strength is one of Wards best attributes so this probably won't affect him too much at Boardwalk Hall.

That 87% of people on this board think Ward wins (and many of those via easy UD) exposes the herd mentality on here, so many people on ESB unable to think for themselves :-(

I think this is a tough fight to pick. If you glance at their records, you'd probably assume Ward would easily win but I don't think it tells you everything you need to know. Whilst Ward beat Kessler easily and Kessler beat Froch, Froch also did a number on Abraham whereas Ward lost a couple of rounds to him. In those fights, Froch didn't get hit at all against Abraham, and Ward got hit a ridiculous high number of times according to the punch stats. Aside from those fights, Froch has also faced a lot of different styles and only lost once and Ward is more inexperienced against high quality opposition.

I think Froch has enough to win but his failing in recent fights has been his workrate. If he works hard, from round 1 to 12, I think he'll stop Ward but that isn't a guarantee. If Froch does the same posturing and posing that he did against Kessler, I think he'll be outpointed at range although, interestingly, Froch is quite a lot longer than Ward, so if he is able to establish his jab, that could play a big part too.

The key punch for me, is Froch's uppercut. If he has success with that, he will likely knock Ward out because it's a punch Ward is open for, especially when lunging in. Ward has to take Froch's reach away, keep moving and especially Froch's defence.

It's an interesting fight though and certainly no walkover.

He hit Ward a hell of a lot more that he did Froch, agreed?

The funny thing about this thread though, is you can go back and look at the polls for the Taylor, Abraham and even Johnson fights and you'll always see more people going against him, than they should. I can't think of a single Froch fight where he was the clear favourite in the eyes of fans.

His style makes people think he's nowhere near as good as he is.

You sure do have a high esteem of yourself.

Can't talk about the 87% but to myself, what makes Ward such a heavy favourite is not that much about his edge on power or sharpness but his incredible ability to shut people off with all the tricks in the bag. One punch and grab, quick in and out, rough inside tactics and of course, his above average "general" speed.

No pro fight is a gimme as we've seen a lot in the past but I do believe Ward will "shut" Froch's edge (power, chin and reach) out.

    Just an opinion.

OK, you have some valid points here. I still think Ward KO's Froch, he's just such a clever & tough SOB. - but I give Froch a decent chance, probably not by KO, though.

Unless Froch can get in a lucky punch I got to go with Ward by decision.

He stays inside & wears him down. Lots of body work, then a late KO despite not being the hardest puncher known to mankind.

Besides, this is all jst theoretical. I'd LIKE to see a KO, therefore I predict a KO. So sue me.
What fun is it rooting for a UD? :smoke

The problem here I think its we have to vote for what we think as the most probable.

If for example the poll was the win/loss ratio between the two, I would put 60/40 in favor of Ward. So the most probable thing that might happen (in my view) is a UD for Ward in the USA, but Froch is a very live opponent and the way the poll is made is flawed because I think a lot more people give chance to Froch than what we see here.
