Ward is too much everything for Rodriguez... I do think this is the right time for him to try tough. With Ward coming of a lengthy layoff/shoulder surgery etc. Rodriguez sometimes shows bad balance ,feet coming together as he switches stances. He is tough, and tightening up defensively under Shields. But, I just think Ward is another level classwise... Rodriguez will bring it,but he just can`t match Ward in any department. Ward UD or late stoppage...
You've raised another juicy angle regarding this match-up - we get to see underrated coaches Virgil Hunter and Ronnie Shields play chess with undefeated top notch athletes in their prime.
Fair play. I don't think either result is all that amazing (even with Grachev being stopped) but it's more the manner in which they happened. Rodriguez vs. George was viewed as close to 50-50, although Rodriguez was favorite. Certainly nobody bought that he would show far more sophisticated boxing skill and finesse. It was supposed to be rock 'em sock 'em robots until someone fell down from exhaustion. As for Grachev, yes he is a face-first and somewhat elementary pressure fighter in whom I never placed too much faith despite upsetting Sillakh and giving Bute a panic, but for him to be utterly destroyed in, what, a minute flat? That was unexpected.
Hadn't picked up Rodriguez was based in Mass., thought you were coming on a bit enthusiastic. Still, like I said before, for my money La Bomba's the best prospect at 168 - Ward will need to be on top of his game, but if he is, he should take it. It is one of the fights I'm really looking forward to, either way.:bbb EDIT: And yeah, Edwin's gonna be needing the stoppage whether it's Oakland or Ontario.
I don't know, IB. I like Edwin, but I think he's grossly lacking in several areas to trouble Ward much.
