SOB Ward refused to fight Stevenson at 175 or 168. Ward's natural weight is 175, he fought as a light heavyweight in the amateurs, Stevenson offered to come down to 168, but Ward refused to fight him period...................when asked about fighting Kovalev, Ward said that Kovalev was too big for him. Ward won't come up 3 lbs. and fight Kovalev...................Ward also insists that any fight has to be in his home town with his personal referee, judges, boxing commission, etc., yet Ward can't draw flies....................Golovkin is Cotto's mandatory, Cotto will pay Golovkin step aside money so he can fight Alvarez, but the winner of that fight has to fight Golovkin or give up the title..............Golovkin will knock Cotto or Alvarez out................bigger names and money than Ward....................

 

How about you Golovkin nut guzzlers demand that your hero come off of his Bum Of The Month tour?

 

Why should Golovkin give up his WBC mandatory status and WBA title? Why don't you tell your heroes Cotto, Alvarez, Quillin, Lee, Sturm to fight Golovkin instead of running from him. Only one fight at 168 for Golovkin while there are many big money fights at 160. Tell Ward to fight Stevenson and Kovalev.......................both want to knock that coward out.................

 

My take on this is that it is a simple negotiation tactic. They are putting something more or less realistic out there to see how Ward reacts. I'm guessing that if Ward objects to a 50-50 split and wants more money, GGG's team will dig their heels in about the weight. If Ward objects about the weight, then they dig their heels in about the money.

Needless to say, I think that Golovkin ought to fight Ward at 168 the same as Ward ought to fight Kovalev at 175. I don't particularly like catchweights because some fighters use them to "cadaverize" their opponents ... thinking of Cotto/Geale now.
