He did better in part because Kovalev's conditioning was not on par. His chronic drinking was clearly starting to affect him by that point. I think that you can judge the timing. Golovkin very often snaps the head of his opponent back because he lengthens the jab and makes it heavier by stepping into it. Kovalev uses it as a long range prod, usually to hit the other guy from a distance or as a means to create distance. Golovkin treats his as a weapon to close the distance or to reset his opponent. I'll agree Ward has a good jab. his intention is often to hit with it and hold or hit with it and then step closer and lower to attack the body. However, I just don't think he'll be able to compete with Golovkin in that area.
Kovalev has hurt and dropped LHWs with his left hand. I know you will not agree with me, but Kovalev is simply better at controlling distance than GGG. Ward started to change levels and land his left.
Yes but Golovkin is more consistently harder and sharper with it. Hmm. Actually I might agree with you. Kovalev is excellent at creating space. In addition to Kovalev's mouse-sized gas tank ... I've never seen GGG with his batteries flat.
Ward is better on the outside and better on the inside. Ward's defense is better. Ward's footwork is better. Ward's jab is more intelligent (but not stronger). Ward is better at grappling. Ward is better off the counter. Ward is much larger. Golovkin has a better chin and more power. I think Ward has trouble until he finds his range, he then proceeds to physically wear and exhaust Golovkin on the inside and wins a fairly clear decision.
Did you watch the fight? Cause Kovalev was absolutely robbed BIG BIG time in the first fight, and the second should have finish via DQ. Prime for prime nobody beats GGG.
Gggs natural size is 160. He'd be undersized at 168..Ward filled out nicely in the second Kova fight at 175 (with the help of some obvious juicing). That's where Wards advantages end. I'm not sure if Golovkin could overcome the size advantage. But p4p speaking Golovkin is better, I'm not even convinced Ward could wrestle Golovkin even with his size advantage
Did you read my comments? I said Kovalev won 7-5 + KD. If Kovalev had GGG's cardio + toughness he would have decisively beaten Ward.
Bro even in this fight and you could clearly see it at 0:41, Ward was landing low, low, low BLOWS. Absolutely pathetic. GGG at his prime was a ******* beast !!!
Ward if he wasn't drained. Wishful thinking at best. GGG couldn't drop the hammer on Jacobs or Chenko and neither are within 100000 light years of Ward. Ward schools GGG there's a reason why GGG wanted nothing to do with Ward.
Ward would have been a career high payday for GGG had the fight happened back then and a legacy fight to boot. There was plenty of money to be made.
