Andre Ward vs Harry Greb

How about all the other great fighters he beat? Did they also have off nights? Despite the fact that Greb's schedule was far tougher than any of them?

 

1. How could you know that Greb had no defense? He was almost never stopped in a long, tough career - in some cases when he wasn't healthy anymore.

2. Why Tunney struggled so much against someone with abysmal technique and no defense? You just said that Tunney looks good, then why Greb was such a tough matchup for him if he was so bad?

 

Man, I think Tunney looks great on film and that Ward's herky jerky style not so much. I'll grant that Ward has a high ring IQ and good grit but I'm not sure that would be enough for me to pick him over Tunney let alone Greb.

 

Greb fought more in one year than Ward fought in his whole career so poor Tunney fighting 6 times in 5 months ain't a problem

 

Are you sure you're not talking about camera work? I don't think you'd say that had Ward fought in the 1920s or 1930s. His style is far from orthodox refined boxing.

 

Tunney proved he was better than Harry Greb.

Greb is too wild and primitive to beat somebody like Ward. He would be very confused by Wards footwork and inside game.

Id give Tunney a better chance at beating Ward

I guess Wlad was worse than Wardley, since he did that multiple times against Pulev.

 

Wlad broke a lot of rules against Pulev. The spongy illegal canvas for example but don't remember his two feet ever leaving the canvas at the same time.
He did however leap forward with a double handed fist pumps number of times.

So agree that Wlads style was primitive and dirty like Kid Norfolks
