Of course younhave to bring up when Kovalev was shot and had a horrible training camp Better boxers at different weight classes. Toney did nothing at 175lb. You will perform different at different parts of your career. Obviously Toney is far greater but at light heavyweight Kovalev would be a favorite. And even then styles make fights. This is common knowledge. Kovalev can jab and move if needed like he did against Toney
I think we are moving away from the thread which is Ward-Toney. I would not say he did nothing. Many thought Toney beat Griffin twice just as many thought Kovalev beat Ward the first time. I always thought Toney was no different at light heavy than at any other weight division. Just had a few bad calls from the judges. Now Kovalev is not too effective fighting backwards. He is not a great mover. Now he does use his height and reach effectively if that is what you are trying to say. But is that enough to beat a fully motivated and in shape Toney? I do not think so. Anyways, the polls shows that the majority picks Toney to beat Ward. I guess the result would be the same in case of a Toney-Kovalev fight.
Because everyone prefers Toney, especially in classic. It doesn't mean he'd beat Ward. He could, but I'd take Ward to win a close decision
