You clearly are biased by your like for Ward and dislike for Calzaghe. America. **** yeah. Comin' again to save the mother****in' day yeah!
Calzaghe toyed with him, he had a broken hand ffs. jesus, its not like he got the beatdown Castillo did on Mayweather, Reid was a world champion and prime, Calzaghe schooled him. ward just fights inactive guys and got knocked down against some unknown ameribum, calzaghe would brutalise Ward, Wards even on PEDs thats a fact.
How delusional. He won a close split decision which many consider Reid won. If not a fight that could have gone either way. Type it into google and see what you get. See what most people say about the fight. The same Robin Reid that lost to ****ing old ass Malinga. Yeah this prime Calzaghe was so great. Beating the Robin Reids and Woodhalls of the world. A fearsome beast. :rofl
By B level you mean olympic GOLD medalist who at the mere age of 22 completely schooled and manhandled one of the best victories of Slappy Joes career. What was Slappy Joe doing at 22? :yep
Who said Reid won? No one. Calzaghe schooled him and the SD was a hometown cooking, Joe easily won, hence why the other two judges had it 116 to 111 for Joe fool. reid was cheated out of beating unbeaten world champ Ottke too. RJJ, Toney, Collins,Hop et all ducked prime Joe, Woodhall was a world champion, again better than any win Ward has.:deal
You're Australian, right? You can't possibly think that the Americans are more deluded than the British fight fans. If you are, you must be of British heritage. Or perhaps one of those deluded fight fans.
Never seen the reid-calzaghe fight but almost every account i've read of it indicated that it was a close fight. and i've also read that calz was injured. that said, reid was a good fighter
Kessler was already being manhandled like a ***** when the first head butt landed. Kessler didnt even win a ****ing round against a prospect.
I was thinking the same as I typed that earlier post. Sorry mate for lumping you with this bonehead below you. Yup, every nation has them and we all get tarred with the same brush, unfortunately.
Anyway: Calzaghe was a smart, adaptable fighter. Ward is a smart, adaptable fighter. We've seen Calzaghe adapt to Kessler, Hopkins, Lacy, Bika, Mitchell, Sheika, Reid, and Eubank. We've seen Ward adapt to Miranda, Kessler, and Green (who would have lost to all of the guys on this list). Calzaghe was a knockout puncher (or at least a stoppage fighter) in his prime. Ward has never been a knockout puncher or a stoppage fighter. Calzaghe was well known for his power. If you watch his early fights and his early title defenses, you can tell from the commentary that he was expected to end the fight early. He almost always did. Ward fights to win, knockout or decision. He doesn't have a high KO ration. Not that it makes him less of a fighter, it just suggests that the power edge goes to Calzaghe. Calzaghe was always in top physical condition. Ward is always in top physical condition. Calzaghe was a volume puncher and a pressure fighter. He threw a bunch of punches and threw them in combinations. Calzaghe was also very strong (throwing Lacy around for 12 rounds is no easy task). Ward is a pressure fighter but not a volume puncher. He throws in 2 or 3 punch combos, rarely puts more than that together. Ward is also very physically strong. Calzaghe had an iron chin. Ward is not known for his chin. Calzaghe could be put down (always by a counterpunch), but he had extremely good recuperative ability. EXTREMELY good. (Watch the Mitchell KO.) Calzaghe could afford to throw large combinations because he didn't usually have to worry about being dropped. Ward has a tendency to be more careful about protecting himself, and has said as much. Calzaghe was extremely quick. Ward is extremely quick. Calzaghe could jump in with a quick shot and get back out. He could also put a combination together with brilliant speed. Ward can jump in and out with a quick shot (especially that jab!). He doesn't string quick combos together though. Calzaghe had a great trainer and they had great rapport. Ward has a great trainer and they have good rapport as well. Calzaghe's trainer guided him to an undefeated 46-0 record, unification (sort of) of the SMW division, the RING title at LHW, etc. Calzaghe's trainer has also worked with former champions Gavin Rees and Enzo Maccarinelli, as well as future champion Nathan Cleverly. Ward's trainer has guided Ward to a title (and will likely guide him to a few more). Head to head, based on what we know about Calzaghe in his prime and Ward right now (I'm not assuming Ward is in his prime yet, but we only know what we've seen), I'm not sure how you can choose Ward with any degree of confidence. It definitely has the makings of a great competitive fight, but all indicators point to Calzaghe winning it. He was as good or better than Ward at everything.
