most of the fighters that Joe fought when his hands were good, had great chins. they either hadn't been stopped, been down, or both. Calzaghe stopped a few good fighters. those other guys had power, but never the ability like Joe had to lay lots of hands on them. the style of Ward (getting in close) plays way too much into the strengths of Joe. add in the fact that Ward doesn't have a good chin, it doesn't look promising for Ward. Ward doesn't get hit that much due to his spoiling tactics. spoiling tactics i may add, that are from him getting badly hurt in 2 previous fights. he's looking to protect himself. it happened to Ward against Carl Froch. a fighter that had no where near the engine that Calzaghe had. also, how many fighters have been able to gas Bernard out before and after the Calzaghe fight? i think you're doing him a disservice. i disagree about Ward and Joe being on the same level. Joe beat his opposition within the rules. Ward doesn't. and i'd pick the Bernard Hopkins that Joe fought to beat Andre Ward. he had far too much to his game for Andre.
Loudon, you're a joke. never admits when he's wrong. never admits to being a hypocrite even though it's clearly being pointed out to him. contradicts himself on a regular basis. you're an Egomaniac. plain and simple.
Which guys were those? The vast majority weren't world class guys , not saying most of them should have been, as Calzaghe was on his way up the ranks himself, but hou'r talking guys that were had beens, or never weres. You don't think it's a stretch to say he stops a guy like Andre Ward? Anyway, every fighter has their warts. Ward used some dicey tactics against Kessler and he got banged up.(that's about the only thing i can think you are referring to, nonetheless, and much to my surprise at the time, Ward pretty much outclassed Kessler from the opening bell.) Calzaghe has his early, shady stoppages, holding and hitting etc. No fighter is perfect. Who cares? Ward is too quick of hand and foot for the aged version of Hopkins.
Roy Jones was faster than Hopkins, so what... All this "Ward is like Hopkins" is crap. The only thing Ward and Hopkins have in common is that their are dirty fighters.
Look, anybody that reads a direct quote such as "I'm not chasing Roy Jones, I don't want tough fights" and then says it was all taken out of context, and what it actually meant was "I WANT to fight you Roy, just stop messing me around" NEEDS TO BE LOCKED UP FOR THEIR OWN SAFETY! :good
Is that what you took out of that? Ward is too fast of hand and foot for Hopkins means that, in a boxing match, Ward would be too fast, with his hands, and his feet, for Hopkins to deal with effectively. Hopkins has struggled with guys like that in his latter years, but eats up slower guys. It's pretty clear.
assassin you must sorely wish joe never spoke his mind when he made that quote, its set you and bailey up for a lifetime of denial. I kinda feel bad for you. its unfair that joe was stupid enough to admit that on record thus refuting every claim to the latter you make from this moment to kingdom come.
Ward has never fought a slick fighter who actually has skills. He only fights sluggers that he can easily outbox, like Kessler, Froch, Bika, etc. Calzaghe beat sluggers like Kessler and Bika, but he also beat technical guys like Hopkins and Eubank.
