Willie Pep and Rocky Marciano were cut from the same cloth? If they were a Jeopardy answer, the question would be, "Who are the two most dissimilar fighters in boxing history?"
Im shocked when ward hasnt beaten any top undefeated fighters, hasnt fought a top prime fighter, hasnt fought an undefeated world champ, who looks gassed late in some fights, that he would suddenly without any proof be able to beat the best SMW ever, who could do everything Ward could do only better, was faster, had greater stamina, harder punching etc. I have no doubt it would be a surprisingly one sided win for Calzaghe who in his prime would have stopped Ward
Calzaghe doesn't stop anybody , much less Andre Ward who has never been stopped and fought much bigger punchers. Kessler was Joes best win and he won a good few rounds against joe. Ward stopped him and never lost a single minute of the fight.
Good question here and I couldn't call. Both have superior skills and both have always found a way to victory against every opponent. Zaggy was a guy who just wouldn't lose - no matter what was in front of him he'd find a way - for me tho Ward is probably the superior boxing technician - the question really is whether 'Dres superior boxing could overcome Joes undefatiguable will. I remember the last coupla rounds of Froch - Ward, were 'Dre was finally starting to look uncomfortable - and damn, was looking for that final bell. Zaggys handspeed might have made things more uncomfortable and earlier for Ward - but Ward mightta had the answer. This is one that I can't really call - both looked so entirely dominant in most of their fights and both bring (brought) something unique to the ring...it'd be pretty much a coin toss, Dammit...my vote's Zaggy - but I wouldn't bet a penny on it.
but you've just claimed calzaghe is the best smw ever without proof, something you've just rallied against. YOu seem blinded in the way religious zealots are about god's existence - they claim god made everything because only someone omnipotent like god could do that. A double fail argument. But you do come across as a zealot in every post you make so maybe the cap fits. it is obvious that what bothers you is that ward tops joe in every respect and hes not even halfway through his career yet.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Ward decision. Ward and Hopkins have a very similar style of fighting (key word: similar). I scored the Cal-Hopkins fight a draw live and 114-113 Cal on the second watch (largely based on all the noise about Cal outworking him). I had Hopkins up 4-0 with a knockdown heading into the 4th, live. Anyway, that was a 44 year old Hopkins (who granted went on a great run afterwards, but never did we see him throw 10 punches a round and fake injury to get some breathe back). I think Andre would use 'similar' tactics to Hopkins and take a decision. NOW - this may the Ward either pre-injury/promotion issues, or the Ward of the next few years. Just my honest opinion - disagree all you want, and I'll listen and take in what all who disagree with me say. Just how I feel at the moment.
I like Joe in this one. But unless he's now doing blow with Prince Charles, I don't see how he ever gets a knighthood.
