common self destructive argument with calzaghe fans - " calzaghe was too old when he fought 40something hopkins."

what if you combined both guys by some wierd genetic experiment, both ward and calzaghe?

CaWARDzaghe -joes stamina and ability to pick weaklings and fight at home, plus wards skills, chin, offense, defence, infighting ability, abilty to defence major world titles

I'm not really a fan of Calzaghe, I'm just saying that when someone mentions Calzaghe everyone thinks of the Hopkins fight, probably because it was his biggest. But that was at the twilight of his career, he was definitely past his prime then.

To me, peak Calzaghe is against Eubank.

    Most would say Lacy.

Eubank hadn't a good win at 168 in 6 years when he took that fight. And he took it at just two weeks notice. That's like saying Klitschko was at his peak against Hasim Rahman.

I didn't say that was his best win, I just think he was at his peak physically in that fight.

Well according to Joe himself he was at his peak physically in his two fights at LHW. He felt stronger and healthier at the weight he said.
Throwing a career high record number of punches against RJJ would back that up.

So what? Many fighters say such things to amp themselves up, how they always feel in prime shape even when it's not the case, he was too old to be prime physically purely because of his age anyway.

The punches he were throwing at RJJ/Hopkins had zero sting on them, and because his hands were so f'd up he didn't even connect with his knuckes, rather with the sides, of course he's going to throw a lot, doesn't back up anything.

Lacy, I'll accept, you can say he was in his prime then if you wish (though I still disagree), that's your opinion. Hopkins/RJJ, he was past his prime.

He said he retired in the prime of his career. His performances at LHW prove he was telling the truth. His words over rule yours... Go back to your Chris Eubank.. :qmeparto:

Yeah he was at his prime at 36 with totally shot hands where he can't even throw power shots anymore, okay. His performance at LHW proved that he struggled with old Hopkins, had he been in his prime he would have beat Hopkins a lot easier.

How was he throwing a record high number of shots if his hands were gone?

His hands were always brittle. Thats why he slapped all throughout his career. His hands had nothing to do with his prime.

He was meant to move to 175 shortly after he beat Eubank. It was 10 years before he finally did. He starved himself to death for most of that decade.
At 175 he was stronger , fitter , healthier , primer.... Did he look shot to you at LHW? He looked like a 20 year old in the prime of his career against Jones Jr.
