Froch vs. Calzaghe is a bit of a hot topic on here. Well, how would Ward fare against Calzaghe? Does Ward outbox Calzaghe, or does Calzaghe's work rate win it for him?
Good to see the Zaggers threads doing the rounds again in amongst the deluge of Golovkin What would start off a close fight would by the mid rounds see Andre tire with Zaggers relentless stamina allowing him to administer a hellacious beatdown Ward strikes me as the type to quit on his stool in the face of such adversity Zaggers by late TKO
I go for Joe by a pretty wide UD. Even when he cheated Kessler (a total ****ing disgrace from start to finish) Ward still looked beatable. When Joe fought a better Kessler and all was level no backstage bull**** Joe looked the much better fighter.
Ward is too skilled and too young for Slappy White to wait until he gets old. So, this fight would never happen.
Both excellent fighters and the 2 best super middles of their era's, this would be competitive, no matter what anyone says, I don't think either faced a fighter as good as the other during their time. But I'd favour Calzaghe and this is coming from a Ward fan who dislikes Calzaghe. It comes down to styles and what each fighter has to beat the other. Calzaghe is open to the right hand, not the left hook, which is Ward's best punch. Ward lacks the great right hand to really punish Calzaghe when he makes a mistake. But Ward excels on the inside and I can see him giving Calzaghe problems at this range, tying him up and beating him up in close. But as Calzaghe showed against Hopkins his work rate is insane and he will win rounds on this alone. Calzaghe also has the quicker hands and better footwork than any fighter Ward has fought, Calzaghe could do what he did against Kessler and adapt and switch to keeping Ward offset with movement keeping Ward from fighting inside where he will be most effective. Calzaghe wins a close decision.
I actually think this would be a very good fight. It's basically Joe Calzaghe's workrate vs Ward's technical ability (mainly defensively and counterpunching.) I think Ward might be a little too elusive and would also probably land the more telling shots in the fight. If Calzaghe isn't deterred by Ward's accurate counterpunching and continues to throw combinations, than he could keep it close. I'd favor Ward by narrow UD, say 7-5 or 8-4 with a couple of pick 'em rounds.
Calzaghe.. Shot CalZaggers, meaning post 2006, wins a comfortable UD. Prime and pre hand problem Zaggers late tko/easy UD
Calzaghe is one of those fighters who gets a lot of hate and people **** on his style but then when those haters go back and actually watch him fight, even they have to admit he not only was good, but more exciting than they liked to admit Manny Steward rated him extremely highly, after picking both Lacy and Kessler to beat him, Steward said he really underestimated just how "special" Calzaghe was
Calzaghe beats that inactive bum Ward easily. Espeically in the UK, but he would probably fight him in the US, it ends up looking like Hopkins vs Calzaghe with Andre trying to hold and foul but he has no excuse cause he isn't 41 years old.
