Exactly. Nothing but a ploy to get Ward more popular


Ward will get a backlash from real fans for taking a soft touch, but HBO is hoping beating a semi known name will raise his profile

 

HBO's last semi succesful American hope takes on the guy they hope can make the money when Mayweather, Pacquaio and Cotto are done.


I don't do technical breakdowns any more, but this seems real simple to me. Ward fights against Pavlik's chest all night, negating the Pavlik jab and scoring hard with inside left hooks and right uppercuts.

Pavlik attempts his own uppercuts but lands nothing of note due to Ward's Nardesque ability to angle his body to block off the other guys arms. Ward's footwork is also vastly superior to Pavlik's, meaning he will dictate the distance.

Oh, and Ward stops him in 11 on cuts.

I think this fight does pretty big numbers on HBO. Pavlik is pretty well known, Ward is on the rise, and most importantly.....there will not be football airing against the broadcast. This is the weekend between the NFL conference championships and the Super Bowl.

Pavlik was on a podcast on Wednesday. He said Ward/Pavlik is almost done, and he is ready to return to Oxnard as soon as he gets the final word. Interesting interview with a very enthusiastic KP.

Yeah, I listend to the interview and was going to post a link, but for some reason I could not.

I think what Pavlik said about not wanting to risk his health unless he is paid well made a lot of sense. It sounds like he will fight Ward, but is about ready to call it a day. With all the money he has made and saved I think its a good idea to fight one more time against Ward and then retire win or lose.

It would be epic if he beat Ward and then retired.

 

I wish kelly would fight froch or bute first but I see why he would go the ward route. he has no chance against andre nevertheless. this will be the hopkins fight all over again.

Former undisputed Middleweight champ.
Only been beaten twice, once against a guy 2 divisions above him and the other against a top 3 p4p fighter, who he put up a good fight against.

He hasnt been fighting anyone special recently but he has been winning and hes only 30.

Fully agree with this analysis, except maybe Ward may hang on the outside for a round or two, and the stoppage on cuts might come in 9 or 10.
