I am not sure Ward will face Kovalev until he has certain things stacked to his advantage.
If Kovalev is tight at the weight and drained to make LHW, then I think it could happen.
If Kovalev were to suffer a surprise loss, I have a feeling Ward would quickly jump to face the winner and then not have to fave Sergey.
I think Ward may stay fresh against opposition that is not too tough and after Kovalev has several tough draining fights and ready to be beaten, think then Ward may face Kovalev

If Ward would just start fighting on a regular basis. Get a win streak going and some momentum. That would solve many of his problems. He also should be told that in a negotiation its ok to give a little. Why make it a difficult and drawn out process with every fight. Just be cool.

Dawson is anything but a hard hitter

Kovalev's team need to keep him sharp. But they don't need to fight hard competition. Kovalev is the champ. Oh so Kovalev has to fight the tough fights but Ward gets 2-3 pickems? I think HBO wants Ward to beat Kovalev. Max loves Ward.

So Barrera is a soft touch for Ward, eh?

But you think it's still a soft touch, still, I imagine? Same as Doc suggested?

I dont think its a soft fight like I felt it was against P Smith. I dont think its a great fight and dont think Barrera has much experience or is a real massive puncher, but he is a genuine LHW who appears solid

He's looked pretty good from what I've seen of him. He does a lot of things very well, and has a solid amateur background with some pretty good wins for where he is in his professional career.

I assume you don't deem him worthy of "undefeated prime fighter" consideration for Ward's ledger? Should Ward win, of course.

I dont think I view the fight in the same way as you do, but do see Barrera as a genuine LHW.
I think part of the issue is that I havent viewed SMW or LHW as strong as I felt they have been previously, even though there are very good fighters like Degale and Kovalev respectively

When did you consider LHW to be better in recent years? In my mind, it's as good as it's been since at least predating the years where Roy and DM co-existed there while refusing to fight one another.

Yep. And those people control him like a puppet. Endless lawsuits that get tossed out in the end.

Barrera is a good matchup. Not a bum fight. But if Andre is the master boxer this guy cant even hold his water bottle.

I think when DM was there it was very good, it seemed to drop for a while in my opinion when you had Tarver and G Johnson facing each other to decide who was champ. When Hopkins made easy work of tarver it seemed to highlight in my opinion that there had been a bit of a drop. I do think its on the up a bit
