Ward on KO - when Ottke turned his head backward to complain to the referee, Ward caught him on the chin.................:shock::shock:
Ottke was elusive, but not a very active puncher, and half those fights you list on his resume were controversial. He was not as fast as Ward of hand or foot, nor as skilled by any stretch. He would be on the constant retreat against Ward, and attempting to counter him ineffectively if it was an outside fight, and on the inside, Ottke has nothing for Ward. As to the refs allowing Ward to do whatever, most refs allow some form of infighting in a clinch, and that is what Ward does. He maneuvers his opponents into the ropes or a corner, leans on them, and he punches when he gets them there. Again, if your hands are free, which Green's were the majority of the time he was on the ropes, the refs want you to fight out. Green could have easily turned Ward, tried to push him off more, fought him off the ropes, or clinched him more thoroughly to force a break, but instead he elected to lay on the ropes and take a beating. Of course in Germany, it would never fly, but on neutral ground, most refs would let the fighters fight in that situation.
Ottke wasnt very good. I wont even go into the Reid fight. dude didnt fight outside of germany and even his best wins werent that great. Ward has his whole career ahead of him and will hav a better resume
