You can't be the same size as Roy, be slower, and be predictable and expect to be competitive. Roy puts him down early and Ward goes into survival mode. Roy wide UD, or if he jumps on him TKO.
The worst style for Ward to go up against. Roy would've beaten him clearly. Too much speed and athleticism. It would be similar to the first Hopkins/Jones fight. Ward's ceiling is very high and he's one of the very few active fighters with ATG potential, but lets wait and see how things play out. Anyone who is familiar with Don Curry will tell you the same.
Why What is the point you know roy beats him even the roy that fought Hopkins would have been to much. When roy weighed 160 vs ward 168 pounds rj still puts it on him
I'm going to go on a limb and say Ward possibly wins this. Consider how much difficulty Roy had with Hopkins and consider that Ward is like a young Hopkins only with more athleticism and ring IQ. Anyone could win. I'll say Roy probably has a 60% chance of winning but it's as close to an even fight as anyone Roy has ever faced in his prime and would be his toughest win if he managed to win. It would be tough like the Griffin fight for many of the same reasons.
Exactly. Prime Jones Jr would dominate most all SMWs in the history of the game. Coulda been the p4p GOAT had he not went to HW and back down.:-(
Jones barely won the first Hopkins fight. Hopkins was making a comeback in that fight. It was not an easy fight. Neither was the Griffin fight. Roy did win those fights but he won very difficult chess matches. I think it would be that kind of fight and with Ward's ring IQ and athleticism it's not a guarantee that Roy wins and certainly not by the 117 type margins people are posting here. It would be a split decision.
Roy clearly beat Hopkins 116-112 on all three cards. Even Hopkins admitted he lost - if it was arguable, or close, you can bet your life he'd still be shouting robbery today. Anyway, Roy beats Ward in a similar manner; his speed being too much, landing shots from the outside before Andre can react. Ward is good enough to get some good work done but doesn't have the power to end things early and, at best, loses a clear decision. Considering how great RJJ was at 168, I wouldn't rule out a stoppage, although I'd bet on a decision.
RJJ via KO early on, people forget wards only looking so good because his opposition isn't very good.
I would say that the fight would be tough even for Roy in his prime. However, he would win it either by (T)KO in the later rounds or by UD. BUT it would not be a walk in the park. Ward is clever. Personally I would not bet on a (T)KO.
