RJJ, Eubank, and McCallum beat him pretty easy. I would call Rocky, Hearns, Collins, Liles even I think would favor Ward against any one else.
Joe Calzaghe = Calzaghe UD James Toney = Ward SD Roy Jones Jnr = RJJ SD Chris Eubank Sr = Ward UD Nigel Benn = Ward UD Michael Watson = Ward UD Steve Collins = Ward UD Mike McCallum = Ward UD Iran Barkley = Ward UD Gerald McClellan = Ward UD Michael Nunn = Ward UD Sugar Ray Leonard = Ward UD, maybe late stoppage Tommy Hearns = Ward UD, maybe late stoppage Chong-Pal Park = Ward UD, maybe late stoppage Murray Sutherland = Ward TKO
Ward is exceptional at that weight, his wins over Froch and Kessler were pretty dominant. I think Calzage would beat him in a close tough fight. I also think Roy Jones beats him. Ward does well against all the others with some possible close fights
I think Ward would beat any 168 pound fighter not named Roy Jones. He's that good (and I'm not even a fan of his).
Out of the rest, I think Calzaghe has the best shot. But consider the common opponent in Kessler: Ward was quite a bit more dominant (zag beat a marginally better version though). Calzaghe also had some competitive opponents like Reid and Bhop. Ward has pretty much swept the comp without fully exerting himself.
Like clockwork... Who did Chris beat at SMW that was on par with Ward? I'd favour Roy Jones over Ward @ SMW. That's it.
This won't be Paul Smith or Carl Froch in front of Andre! Or a shot robot. It will be the most bizarre, complex puzzle to solve in front of him. FWIW, Nigel Benn of 93-95 was a world-beater and could've outboxed and outpointed almost anyone for me with that outrageous upper body motion. He no longer led off with wild swings off-balance, but ducked, slipped, bobbed, weaved, doubled-jabbed and moved in and out, to look for counter-punch or body-punch openings. And Michael Watson on the night his career ended was like nothing we've seen before in the sport - every last punch thrown was turned into with full effort of hip and shoulder, and he never threw one at a time; mostly 4s and 5s (in blistering clusters), and he never took one backward step all night or stayed still for more than one second, and used all the angles in every minute, to body and head. Unreal.
I don't know if Chris beats him easily, unless Ward swarms him. It would be a stand-offish affair with Ward looking to snide his way through with ducks, turns, clinches etc knowing he can't match Eubank's reflexes, timing or shortness of punch in a toe-to-toe skill-for-skill ring central match. Ward is very, very good at what he does - leading off sneakily, grabbing, turning away, ducking away, countering, headbutting; so smart. It won't be easy for Eubank. In fact Ward would sneak enough rounds to win it, unless he came at Eubank too much, of course. But you never know how opponents would react to Eubanks bizarre, mime-artist, martial art-like style. His posturing and presence seemed to intimidate Amerian imports to the point they wouldn't jump on him when he turned to pose or stood like a statue.
