A couple of weeks ago Erdei called out Ward and I thought that would have been a good fight. Does anyone know why it never materialized? Erdei is a solid boxer, former linear light heavy and WBC cruiser champ, so even if you think his resume could be better he would be a good opponent. Also only questionably lost to Gratchev, which is his only loss. So why not? Additionally I find it ridiculous that Hopkins called out FMJ, he should too fight Ward, I mean come on.
He'll keep having problems until he realises that though he might be one of the best boxers on the planet technically, he is also one of the most boring and nobody is that much interested in watching his fights and that he needs to stop acting like a big draw and fight outside of his hometime
Is that really his problem, I thought he has quite a good following. He has been built up on Showtime and HBO 3 million for a fight is not too bad, I don't think it's a money issue. Perhaps Erdei was not accepted by HBO, but why? He is a DiBella fighter so he should have connections to the networks
But why people 3 million for Ward Vs the nobodys he's been trying to get them to agree to, in wards hometown, in a fight that will be dull. When that same money can probably pay for a fight between 2 big names at 140/147. The easy money is gone, Berto screwed that up.
Why doesn't Ward move up to 175? There are some decent opponents at light heavy, Kovalev, Hopkins, Adonis...
3 million is from the news. That's the figure he would be getting from HBO for his next fight against Rodriguez. Some other names were turned down by the network but Erdei was never mentioned as a declined opponent, maybe they haven't thought of him.
Erdei did say 168 would be ok with him. (Hopkins would go down to 160 for Floyd...) I too wonder how long will Ward stay in 168
lol,Erdei, com'on man! Warddke has no shame, leftovers and no hopers one after another. i knew Warddke is a piece of **** the minute he try to get Pavlik out of rehab and into a ring with him in jOakland.
You're right..... Andre Ward should start fighting debuting heavyweights in Poland for chump change, doing so should "solve" all of his "problems".
ward is fighting edwin rodrigues....a fight that interests me as much as kimbo vs butterbean... the problem with ward is he thinks he is on the same level as mayweather, b-hop..ext...he thinks he can sit back and call the shots, but he is boring and now wants to cherry pick his fights just like mayweather... ward tried many other options, but hbo/sho was not interested because all the opponents ward offered were of lesser quality...so they chose edwin for ward...which i think is a bad matchup...just another pay day for ward...a real champ doesnt choose who he wants to fight... the day ward does the following, i will be a fan and believer: travels to another country to fight fights 4 times a year moves up in weight stops cherry picking his opponents until then he is just a paper champ with decent skills
i don't think Rodriguez is such a bad opponent for Ward. He is unbeaten with some credible names on his résumé. I suspect it will be a comfortable points victory for Ward, but with the likes of Froch and Groves set to face each other and Stevenson and Bute also tied up it's about the best available fight for him after a long layoff
