Did he set it up himself? Really? Really? I just think it should be an even playing ground. Everyone should fight away from home against disingenious judges. We saw what happened to Froch tonight. Ward has shown nothing except beat Kessler with added headbutts and elbows. Ward is okay, but they're is far too much hype imo.
Smashed? WTF? That is shittalking right there ! Here said he will enter the Super Six if he is alawed to have the fights in his beloved home of Oakland! I`m not saing he not good but...I think the SUper 6 is made him and Direll.
Let's give Dirrell the benefit of the doubt, he's displayed some skill. He's won by DQ don't ya know! I can't help but get the feeling that atleast Ward is getting preferencial treatment in the super six and that is from someone that hates the Saurelands.
I've really never felt that in Europe, people actually do unify behind one fighter. At least not in Britain anyway. Guys like Haye and Froch etc get the exact same stick here that they get anywhere. Also, Europe isn't one country - there is as much rivalry between countries in Europe as you would you find anywhere else in the world. At any rate, Britsillynanny's comments on the American public's perception of boxing are applicable here too. There is probably a good percentage of the British population that still think Mike Tyson is the heavyweight champion of the world. Sports fans here don't care enough about boxing to give particular support to domestic fighters and ironically, are likely to know more about boxers from other countries as their fight knowledge is limited to only the sport's biggest superstars.
A bit OT I agree to an extent. Europe is a continent (not a country) made up of many different cultures and languages. I do think there is a irrational hatred of the island from certain countries though.
every single home canvas fighter has won every fight so far- and Andre Wards 3 fights are all on home soil; i dont know how they pulled that off- but thats going to be the difference maker. all these fighers are all very even. i think as they say- styles make fights- and Andre Dirrell has the perfect size and style to trouble someone like Ward. i think his lanky long arms and straight punching neutralise wards movement.
Haha, yeah, apologies - I did go a little OT. I just wanted to make the point that for the sake of us respecting eachother's opinion's on boxing, it's incorrect to assume that Europeans are blindly loyal to European fighters.
Ward and Dirrell should be fighting in Vegas or New Jersey. Neither draws much excitement in their hometown. I really enjoy watching the fights take place in europe more due to the crowds as opposed to Oakland and Detroit. Even Bute in Montreal has an awesome crowd that puts electricity in the air. Then again how much excitement are you going to generate with one guy who dives in with his head low, throws, then clinches and another guy who's constantly dancing away from his opponents after pot shotting?
