If Ward was to fight and beat 2 or more of GGG (at 168), Stevenson, Beterbiev (should he become the threat we think) and Kovalev where would he rank P4P all time? (Assuming he remains undefeated) . Top 50 at least surely?
I'm a big big fan of Ward, but if he beats Golovkin in let's say Golovkin's next fight after Lemiuex, and beat the Beterbiev of his next few fights, it wouldn't stand for much. Granted the two are hyped to the gills by people on forums and sh*t, it wouldn't get Ward much universal credit as Beterbiev is still raw as hell and Golovkin's resume is weak anyway. Kovalev would be a top win though, not to far off his wins against Kessler, Froch and Dawson. Top 50 though? Nope. But if you were to have Calzaghe in your top 50, then yes Ward would most certainly be top 50.
I agree with Jake, GGG win wouldn't be all that significant most likely, neither would Beterbiev now but beating Kovalev would be big, I'd say that would be his best win by far in his career.
It's one of those things, it would be beating the potential and thus stifling that potential if that makes any sense, he wouldn't really get much credit but who is Golovkin supposed to fight to 'become a great name'... it's like Floyd beating Alvarez, everybody wanted that fight but they knew if he won they can say he was too green, Alvarez has shown to be a good fighter since then, if he had beaten Lara, Angulo and Kirkland and fought Cotto before Floyd, he'd have got much more credit yet everybody asked for that fight at that time.
No one asked for the Canelo fight at the time. We knew it was in the pipeline, but not for when it happened. Canelo won a close decision over Trout, whom no one ranked highly, and before that he had beaten Matthew Hatton nut), Ryan Rhodes nut), Alfonso Gomez nut), Kermit Cintron nut), Shane Mosley nut), and Josesito Lopez rofl).
Right... you don't believe this, like most things you bang out on the loonyboard you use. Correct me here, but isn't Mayweather vs Alvarez the 3rd selling PPV event in the history of the sport? Only 200,000 less than May vs DLH... Compare that to Floyd's usual numbers, even against Cotto or Marquez... why would the numbers have been so astronomical if 'nobody has asked for the Canelo fight'... the potential of the kid was and is colossal, simple... can't you accept that? I just told you that people would say he was green yet if he didn't fight him, they'd say he was ducking him because everybody asked for that fight after Trout.
