Andre Ward's desperation is clear

I think it's clear by the trend of "beat Berto fight Floyd" that Berto was being built up so he could be fed to Floyd and everybody in America would lap it up. Younger, bigger, undefeated fighter. That's why HBO could afford to pay his inflated purses.

Lucky for them, he was beaten by Ortiz who was young and took a relatively small purse for a Mayweather opponent so their investment wasn't wasted.

Fat Dan said he got just over a million $s for the Dawson fight, it's nothing to be sniffed at but hardly megastar money. Garcia got pretty much the same for fighting the corpse of Morales in the rematch on Showtime.

 

He was but he was making 1 mil + from HBO alone.

I wouldn't be surprised after Carl fights Kessler Ward fights the winner with HBO's involvement it would make the most sense money wise for the fight to occur in the US.

 

That is the kind of money he will be making not many make more than that unless they are PPV.

 

Yeah but again what was Khan being built up towards? Everybody knows Floyd wanted Khan. Mayweather was screwed with the British PPV money for the Hatton fight and wanted a piece of it second time round.

In a perfect HBO world Khan beats Peterson, moves up to 147 has one relatively easy fight and is then fed to Floyd. Fighters in and around 147 will always be paid more because the investment can be easily recouped if they continue to win.

All Khan and Berto had to ****ing do was choose lesser opponents (and win) and they'd of been given the golden payday but they couldn't.

 

How was Floyd screwed out of the UK ppv money?

 

I believe they let Hatton keep the lion's share of the UK revenue, not realising how much it would generate. But let's not cry for Floyd - he was hardly on slave wages.

 

Golden Boy negotiated that Hatton could have 100% of the British PPV money for a substantially lower guaranteed purse (not realising how well it'd sell). The fight went in to do well over 1million buys in the UK alone.

Obviously UK PPV is a lot cheaper than in America and Sky took their cut but Hatton made millions, while Mayweather didn't get anything. I'm sure he still made more than Hatton overall though.

He's never let that go, that's why he wanted to get a piece of Khan so much.

 

How much did Hatton and Floyd make overall? How did their respective purses breakdown?

 

I can understand why Ward is antagonising Froch on twitter and calling him out a little on his supposed desire to avenge his defeat, because Froch always mentions Kessler as the main one and then goes "and Ward as well", without any real conviction or belief that he could really turn the tables in a rematch. Ward has picked up on that, knows Froch doesn't really want to fight him, and is winding him up about it. Notice how Froch never rises to or responds to his jibes. Because he knows Ward can see through it.

I can still see Mayweather vs Khan happening.

Floyd's flunkies got their fingers burnt by letting Hatton keep all the British money, and want to make amends.

Can't see that doing 1m+ PPV buys though.

 

I remember seeing somewhere Floyd made a guaranteed $25m from the fight and Hatton a guaranteed $5m (slightly lower than the $8m offered as part of the UK PPV deal).

I'd be lying if I made up some bul**** figure of what they both walked away with after it was all said and done.

 

I don't like Andre Ward, and i have grown to admire Carl Froch's attitude and ability.

But Andre Ward would probably force Carl Froch's corner to throw the towel in next time.

 

Styles make fights; which is why I truly believe Bute has the best chance of beating Ward in the division.

I'd rather see Froch take on the likes of Bute, Pavlik, Kessler, Groves and Degale than him take on Ward.
