Dude is a bully in there.

He's so rough on the inside and breaks you down.

    Froch even said

"Sorry Rachel, I couldn't do it, he was either TOO close or TOO far"

    :nod

Ward is irrelevant. So no..... Been far too inactive to really gauge where he's at skill wise.

You just gotta love in fighting like that.

    A breath of fresh air.

He said he's not going to walk away from Kovalev if he fights him, but to him.

    Would love seeing it.

Definitely in the conversation, along with Bradley, Hopkins and Yaegashi.

I agree, I particularly love his headbutts and elbows, they ALWAYS leave a mark on his opponents, sometimes even decide the outcome of the fight :deal

Well, if you can pull it off without being penalized, that is part of the game. :conf

There's a difference between someone that sprinkles in the fouls with good solid infighting (Ward, Hopkins, Salido) and someone that does nothing but clinch and perform illegal blows. (say, Luis Alberto Lazarte, among others)

Keeping it to a low enough ratio to get away with it is an art...

I'd say yes. Ward can throw any punch on the inside, knows how to effectively cut off the ring, knows how to stay defensively sound while doing it, knows the dirty stuff too, and he fights more consistently on the inside than the other contenders to the throne.

If he was more powerful and had a fight-ending left rip on the liver to produce some more highlight reel kayos, more people would probably see him as the front-runner.

I've noticed people have a tendency only to credit infighting when it provides immediate tangible results. (when that isn't really how infighting works...)

first time I watched Ward was vs Kessler, and I was turned away from him after seeing him repeatedly foul the Dane, but after watching him handle Froch with ease (also fouling, but not as blatantly), I have to agree with you IB, even though I'm not a fan of elbows, headbutts and excessive holding and hitting :yep

Ward's best punch is his head butts, the illegal, intentional headbutt that he used to stop Kessler, Ward would have been disqualified with a neutral referee.....................Ward was the only boxer who never had to travel, always had his own referee, judges, boxing commission and venue................................
