As a fan of his I'd be happy if he just fought once that in itself would be better than I could hope for. Fact is there is so much uncertainty surrounding his future. I think his only real hope of fighting next year is if he drops his criminal case against his promoters or if Roc Nation buy out his contract. Since he lost his case in the superior court in August and he then switched his case to a violation of the Muhammad Ali act we haven't heard anything. He said he was going to fight in November, there were rumours of a Kessler fight then nothing. Hunter is saying the reason he's not fighting is nobody wants to fight him, if that's the case we'll never see Ward in the ring for a very long time. Fact is there are no solid plans to make a fight anytime soon. Best I can hope for is that his case gets sorted out this spring, he doesn't appeal and he has a fight in the autumn of 2015 against a weak opponent to shake off the rust. But if he loses his case and he appeals then I think we can forget seeing Ward in 2015.
It takes two to tango, and since Ward thinks he's the cat's meow, he probably won't go out of his way to make a fight with anyone. Pride is a bitch.
I think that's a big part of his problem. He seems unwilling to make any kind of concession to make fights. He has this false idea that because he is the best fighter in the division everyone should come to him and beg for a fight when in reality they really don't need him in this era of multiple titles and his lack of drawing power.
I think he'd have a good chance of ruling 175lbs as well but he just doesn't want to test himself. I love his ring smarts and technical skills but I'm really getting sick of fighters always looking for an easy path when its well within their ability to succeed. It's why Froch has become a draw, yes from a technical stand point he's awful and he isn't very likable at all but when you have a fighter who is just willing to fight anyone, anywhere you can't help but eventually admire and root for them. Everyone wants a warrior, nobody cares for a careful business man in the ring, they want a take anyone on fighter. I'd love to see Ward turn his career around, beat Golovkin and then rule light heavy but I can't see him wanting it. True greatness is within his grasp, it's literally just there for him to take but he simply refuses to do it, it's infuriating. :fire
