Andre Ward's record is a byproduct of 3 things: 1. Favorable Judging 2. Favorable Refereeing 3. Illegal fighting (bending below 90, elbowing, head butting, single leg takedowns, etc) Number 3 was made possible due to number 1 and 2.
Ward's current resume is impressive and already HOF worthy. Before he is through he will be ATG status. All this talk of home cooking is worthless palaver. Note, the fact that Vlad fought most fights in Germany isn't an issue. Kovalev's resume is not yet HOF, but he isn't afraid of fighting good opponents and does't depend on careful match-making to craft statistical accolades. He may develop a HOF worthy resume as well.
Kovalev beat SOB and it wasn't even close. Harold Lederman had it 116 - 111, I had Kovalev winning even bigger...............SOB is a cheat, the only thing that Saved SOB were his personal judges, referee, and boxing commission, he should have been disqualified, he didn't even fight, he just tried to headbutt, low blows, grab Kovalev's leg, knowing that all he had to do is be standing at the end of the fight. The ref helped SOB cheat. Kovalev knocked SOB down, hurt SOB with a jab, etc.
Its not bad at all, but I dont think its as good as some of the other active fighters. Kessler was a faded double vision suffering fighter who had already been beaten. Froch was not on good form and was a fighter who was often outboxed. Kovalev is a good name on his resume and a top name at the time he got the decision
He didnt clean out 168lbs. He beat Kessler who beat Froch who beat Bute but never fought any when undefeated and prime. Thats not saying its bad
Ward won every single fight of his convincingly apart from the Kovalev fight AND illegal fighting is a part of boxing and is employed by boxers who aren't as good so they can actually compete with the good boxers, and is employed by virtually all of the ATG's. No one should feel so entitled to the extent that they don't use it at all when the GOATs used dirty fighting. It's the professionals, you do what you get away with.
The only one he didn't beat was Bute. Kessler as a little past prime but Froch was still prime IMHO, he would go on to KO Bute in his next fight.
I read something about bias in one of your other posts. you seem to be going out of your way to discredit ward's achievements here. Kessler was pre-tourney favourite for the super six, and saying froch was "not on good form" is a cop-out. I daresay froch will not be on good form each time he fights a fighter of ward's calibre
Just because Froch beat Bute doesnt mean Ward did. I actually felt Froch was a little past his best before he won his first world title but that is just my opinion, but I dont think Ward beat the best version of Froch at all. Froch had been on the road for 5 of his previous 6 fights and fought all of the original S6 opponents one after the other with Johnson mixed in, but Frochs form had questions in that some felt he lost to Pascal, Dirrell, Johnson and he did lose to Kessler. I thought Ward/Froch was close and would have liked to have seen a return in Nottingham but it wasnt to be
You write this and copy in a part of my post but left out this part which shows bias yourself. I scored for Kovalev but hadnt written that when talking resume until you made this comment. Tell me how Froch was on good form having been on the road for 5 of his last 6 fights in tougher situations than Ward? ie Kessler away, Abraham away, Johnson away, Taylor away etc. Also tell me how you have Froch on such good form when some felt he lost to Pascal, was losing to many against Taylor before the finish, some felt he lost to Dirrell, he did lose to faded Kessler coming off a loss, he beat Abraham coming off a loss and some felt he lost to faded boiled down Johnson who wasnt a top SMW. I thought Ward/Froch was close with many evenly fought rounds whichever way someone scored them
I think Froch was a good fighter but around at the right time at SMW. I dont think he would have done as well had he been around at top level 2/3 years earlier. Froch has a good win over Bute which I rate highly. I always felt Froch was a greater fighter as a challenger rather than champ. As a challenger I thought he was good against Pascal then as champ I didnt think he looked good against Taylor, Dirrell or Kessler, then as challenger I thought he looked good against Abraham but as champ didnt think he looked good against Johnson or Ward even though I felt that was close, then I thought as challenger he looked good against Bute
