If you really look at who he beat and how, his resume is not super remarkable. Froch or Kessler were his best wins, and he did look good beating them, but Froch had looked less than spectacular in his previous fight vs. Glen Johnson. Kessler, maybe his biggest win, was a great win, but it was Kesslers first fight in the US and it was in Wards backyard. Plus he was cut. Almost all of Wards fights for that matter have been in his backyard. I'm not saying he's not a great fighter, but his aura of greatness is at least somewhat in part to good management and favorable terms that benefited him more than his opponents. Location and even weight vs. Dawson for example.
Ain't no such thing as somewhat, kinda, almost, lil' bit, etc. It either is or it isn't. The guy entered the Super 6 and beat the brakes off everybody he got in the ring with. I don't care about who fought where because not a single fight ended in controversy. Didn't see any home cooking going on. Froch has ZERO interest in avenging his loss to Ward. I wonder why? Dawson challenged Ward, he rolled the dice, and it backfired on him. Ward cannot be discredited for that. So no his resume is not overrated. Put Ward against almost anyone and he'd be the favorite.
Ward does not have an A level fighter on his resume because there have not been any A level fighters for him to fight in his division. You can't blame Ward for that, but he has beaten several B+ fighters with authority, so we know he is good. Golovkin has only beaten (at best) one B- fighter, and several C+ guys. I know Golovkin is an A level fighter by watching him, and I know he would be the best fighter Ward has ever faced, but Ward's resume is better, even if it is overrated.
yeah his resume is good but it's not all that great tbh. Kessler had already lost to Calzaghe (who many on here discredit), Froch is tough but clearly limited, Dawson was drained and got destroyed at 175 by Stevenson. Ward is one of the best fighters on the planet but his resume doesn't really reflect it, if he was more active/willing to compromise/didn't have issues with his promoter or manager or whatever it was, he could have a better resume. It would have been good if he had fought Bute back when he was champ, fought at least one of the Dirrells and moved up and fought Stevenson and Kovalev.
His resume is great but in today's climate it shouldn't be enough to cement you as the P4P#3 after three years of sparse activity and a solid of year of inactivity. His titles should be stripped and he should be removed from the ratings next month.
