Hatton by beat down. Kotelnik is a good tidy boxer but doesnt have enought elite qualitys not much power or speed. Hatton at his best was fast and powerful and would have savaged him to head and body round after round.
In his prime anyone that Hatton can overpower, he'll beat. This is a disasterous style match up for Kotelnik.
Hatton would win, yes, but not easily as most may think. If it took place in the UK then he may be a bit more dominant, as he’ll get away with his mauling and wrestling. But in a neutral venue with a neutral ref, I can see Kotelnik having a lot of success. He’s easily tough enough to withstand a Hatton onslaught for 12 rounds, and bearing in mind Hatton’s reckless face-first defence, Kotelnik would be landing a healthy amount of shots in the process. Unfortunately he hasn’t got the power to keep Hatton off him, so there’ll be nothing to prevent the brawler from impressing the judges with his work rate and aggression. A Hatton UD, but he wouldn’t look too good in the process.
This is correct, although you place too much emphasis on Hatton's "mauling and wrestling". In fact, everyone does. Which leads me to wonder how many old fights people have seen, where there was far more mauling then seen in any Hatton fight. Same Queensbury rules, so at which point did it become so wrong to do so?
I've seen all of Hatton's fights, and in my eyes, his rough house tactics were very beneficial to his style. Once he'd cut the ring with his quick footwork, it allowed him to stay close and rip the vicious attacks to the body. The referees and the opponents never prevented him from doing it, so fair play to him, it worked to his advantage. But the moment his ability to overpower and maul an opponent was suppressed (Floyd and Collazo), we saw what happened.
Prime Hatton tears Kotelnik a new one. I watched Gavin Rees land body punches all night on Kotelnik while Kotelnik had very low punch output. If a fighter not as physically strong as Hatton has little power, low punch output and leaves his body open he will get stopped... one rib braker like Castillo took and no fighter is tough enough to carry on
I like how it's finally happening. The new crop looks less than stellar against each other so the formerly joked about former champion is now getting his due in fantasy matches. It's a funny cycle.
I think Hatton takes this one. As has been pointed out his mauling style could be very effective and against a light punching, low workrate Kotelnik, he'd have a field day.
Hatton UD...I doubt Kotelnik could dishearten, or disrupt a prime Hatton. Hatton being the physically stronger aswell...
