Not sure if it has been posted before

31-4-1 (13 KO's), 34 years old, last fight was vs Alexander where he lost on Points in 2010

Won the silver medal as a Lightweight at the Sydney Olympics-2000, lost to Kindelan

WBA world Champion (beating Rees) for over a year

Credible opponents Faced - Khan, Witter, Alexander, Maidana, M'Baye, Rees

was planning a comback fight, guess that is not going to happen

Massive Shame. I liked his style of fighting.

Surely with his performance against Alexander he was in the mix for a bix fight in the America. Peopl would have seen a fight against bradley, or Judah.

Maybe he was strugglng to land a big fight.

Does it say why he retired

I hope he has enough money saved away so he isn't forced to fight again.

Enjoy retirement champ. Enjoy life and time with your family.

    Happy trails, champ.

Good, solid fighter he was. Easily deserved that decision over Alexander.

Never retired, he was on a break and was planning a comeback 10 rounder in Kiev if he didn't get a fight against a contender in USA

This is the statement he made last winter, on B-Scene:

At the time I interpreted that as him walking away, although I guess he didn't officially retire there. :conf Pretty much a goodbye statement, though. So this news isn't exactly shocking - just tying a bow on it.

It seems he never did have that farewell 10-rounder at home.

It doesn't on that article, but it is related due to injury - can't remember if it was his knee or back - had for a large part of his career, but with age it makes it harder for him to train

It's a shame to see him retire. I still think he's been very unlucky with a couple of decisions. He beat Alexander without a doubt, he was an awkward opponent, with a good tight guard and a nice straight right jab.

His lack of power, was an obvious problem, (god i sound like i'm writing an obituary) but he negated that with his excellent defence. His best win was against Marcos Maidana in a war that fans have to watch. He shook Maidana a couple of times, but also was wobbled twice in that fight.

Another great win was when he stopped Gavin Rees who is a capable opponent.

I don't know, the tenor of the statement as I'd read it didn't sound too optimistic and made the anticipated Kiev date sound much more of a "farewell to the fans" than a "comeback".

I had pretty much written him off as retired since then.

Too bad about his injuries. He was one of the best in his weight range, and only ever clearly beaten once (by Khan).

Also, his win over Maidana was NOT a robbery as some knuckleheads claim. Honestly the Witter, Alexander and M'Baye losses were all much more appropriately termed robberies against him. The Maidana fight was just a close one that went to the Euro in Europe, so of course it is fodder for controversy. (and that is right before Maidana's hype blew through the roof with the Ortiz win, so people thought he was too good to lose to a relative unknown legitimately..)

It's safe to say the corruption ended his career.

Yeah. That 'loss' to Alexander was in reality an horrific and cynical robbery and Harold Lederman should've been fired by HBO for attempting to mislead viewers with his joke of a scorecard. Heard he was also robbed against M'baye as well though I've never seen the fight myself.

    Witter fight was 50/50 aswell

Khan remains the only to beat him clearly, had it 118-110 for khan if I remember correctly

Hate it when that happens and you know already that the fix is in.
When they only get the names right but the fight discription makes you wonder if they are calling the wrong fight you know already the other guy needs a KO.

Completely kills the fight for me.
