seriously, hes no novice when it comes to throwing fists and considering the state of the heavyweight division, I think he'll do ok, he certainly has potential.
Right of the start Arlovski is going to be among the best conditioned and quickest HW's. Yeah, the potential is there. He trains hard and shows up in incredible shape for fights, I give him credit for that.
well roach is one of the best boxing trainer's out there and if this guy has some amateur experience it's a start, but it doesn't sound right that whether he's an mma champ or not face a HW champ. he'd need to face at least 10 bums and then see if he can beat a journeyman or 2. aside from that, he'd need to get boxing fan's attention, but i'm sure there's be alot of mma fans interested. this all just sounds out of place for me. i watch both, but i don't think both should particularly mix. their both under a particular set of rules. they should throw arlovski in with a rahman, briggs, butterbean, etc. and i still think they might be too much for him
I don't think Arvlovski could just jump in and become a HW champ his first couple fights, this isn't MMA. I doubt he beats anyone in the Top 50, he may get on a roll with the journeyman but Valuev would probably stop him within a couple rounds.
Even as crappy as Valuev is he pummels this guy! I don't Andrei deserves a shot anyways without moving up the ranks, but only way I allow it without being mad...Since he wants to be top dog then his first fight is Vitali instead . Vitali is an easy guy to **** off anyways so I'm sure he'd have no trouble landing a match. Talk some smack about his brother Wladimir, and Vitali would be willing to fight Andrei in Andrei's own front yard! LOL
the reason why most mma fighters aren't that great of strikers is because the game is 2/3 ground when you add in the takedown and grappling portion of it. unless you come from a striking background prior to mma. let's see if the pitbull can get to the top ten before he starts calling out the champ. this isn't mma in which you can get a title shot just because you put asses in the seats.
That's part of what's wrong with the division...if you have semi-recently lost a title match, another champion feels justified to face you. Study the recent history (last few years) of the HW division, HOLY is not even close to being the first guy who gets another shot after losing a title bid...
Arlovski was shook by the power and boxing of Tim Sylvia, made him afraid to engage. He has decent footwork, and decent striking for MMA. But Valuev would beat him. The Klits would destroy him.
I really hope this fight happens come to think of it, then we will finally see what happens when a MMA guy steps in the ring against a top Heavyweight, it's going to be ugly, if Arlovski cant handle Sylvia's power, how the hell do expect him to take punishment from a world class Heavyweight with power?
cosign. have you seen arlovsky punch? he doesn't have good technique. valuev has legitamately beaten good heavyweights like liakhovich. mma guys can't focus on boxing and aren't used to guys who know how to throw a punch.
I have, he's a good striker for an MMA fighter, not for a guy who wants to fight a world class boxer. Thats like me being great hitter in highschool baseball, and claiming I could jump up to the major leagues and bang homeruns off of guys like Randy Johnson or Ben Sheets, guys that can throw in the 90's and could throw more than just a fastball, it just doesnt work like that. Now if Arlovski wanted to start off by fighting guys on his own level and moving up gradually, I would have no problem with, and who knows, he may develope into something, but if he thinks he can jump in the ring against one of the best the division has to offer, and win, he's in for a big surprise.
This will be interesting, I think I am going to save this thread and bring it back up after his fight. If anything maybe good for a good laugh or even still for a pleasant surprise, which I think the latter is less likely to happen.
Whats with all the Lavuev hate now? People used to think he was decent until he fought Holyfield. I thought it was quite obvious that he wasnt trying. Out of respect maybe?
