Andrei "Kimbo" Arlovski

I came up with the Kimbo thing, and that's because the thought was, like Kimbo, Arlovski grew his beard out to try to help deal with the impact of shots to his chin. Lord knows it wasnt for the aesthetic value.

As Rico Spadafora and others have mentioned, AA has a known glass jaw. It's not as bad as, say, Khan's, but it's clearly the limiting factor in his cieling as a fighter. That's understood by most people around the sport, and is very similar to Khan's predicament. The shot was huge, when you look at it on replay, but Fedor has landed hard shots on other guys in the past and they didn't instantly bounce their head off the mat. In fact, this may be Fedor's only 1-punch KO. Yes, AA had momentum with the jump and it was a big punch. Still, he has no chin and this only calls attention to that reality once more.

Kimbo got KO'd in 14 seconds. AA has a glass jaw. They both have goofy beards that are supposed to help them take shots, apparently. It was an easy and, at least to some people, funny comparison to draw. I like AA, a lot, and he's 100 times the fighter Kimbo is. But if you come into a fight looking like the Unibomber and get KO'd in mid air, expect to take some jokes.

 

Jokes are one thing, but insults are another. Kimbo Slice was a useless hyped up amateur who single handily took down a whole affiliation.
I do admit AA looked uncannily like a zombie from Manchester Morgue!

Kimbo was nothing of the sort. EliteXC was on its way to folding long before Kimbo got on board. Gary Shaw saw a way to make money and that was by pinning the hopes of the organisation on interet phenom Kimbo Slice. Slice at no time ever has pretended to be anything more than what he was, which was a brawler from the street. If this was 10 years ago maybe Slice would have survived maybe not. But it was the wrong time to enter MMA when the sport has evolved so much. Either way the stupid rabble that you see posting on Sherdog are to blame for Kimbos hype as well as the internet warriors that thought Kimbo was the next best thing since sliced bread. Kimbo did exactly what anyone else would have done. He took the money and ran. Cant blame him in the slightest for doing the obvious.

 

Tell him not to do that shadow boxing thing. It makes him look remedial.

Fair enough, fair enough. I respect Arlovski a ton and like him a lot, as a guy and a fighter. The dude made like $1.5 million just for last night. He came over to this country with nothing, didn't speak the language (as far as I know, or didn't know it well), knew pretty much no one and now look at his life. I'm proud of him, and happy for him. I hope I end up with some measure of his success. I'm subscribed to his YouTube channel, added him on MySpace and will probably join his site.

Slice is all hype, basically. I don't think he's a bad guy, and he's made something from nothing. But Arlovski is a legitimately excellent fighter, particularly offensively.

I saw this video on youtube and as soon as he said "kimbo" I turned it off. AA is nothing like Kimbo, while AA may not have the best chin that was a terrific shot he took no shame in getting KO'ed by Fedor, Kimbo on the other hand got KOed by a weak jab by an almost nobody. Tell your brother this particular video and assessment is an epic failure. I'm not sure how his other vids are or even care but he should take this one down.

 

Oh and by your avatar I'm assuming you guys have some kind of China chin fetish going on, whats up with that?

I love talking about glass chins, kind of like how Rico Spadafora is. However, it just so happens Haye has no chin and neither does Arlovski. It's not a subject that always has to come up, but it did in my avatar and in the AA/Fedor video we did last night. :hat
