Very competitive lightweight when the Lightweight Title was up for grabs on CBS Sports Spectacular every couple of months or so. Ganigan fought from 1972 to 1983, ending his career with an overall record of 34 wins (30 by KO) and 5 losses. He was a southpaw. On March 26, 2010 former World Champion boxer was brutally assaulted leaving him with permanent brain damage. . Passed away on May 2, 2012.
Surprise k.o. of Sean O'Grady.....a decent lightweight. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8MD9lIITv8 Kinda like Pacman.....with that southpaw stance.....his big punch came from a bad angle for a rightie to defend against.
Great job in noting that fight as well. CBS Sports refers to it in several of the Ganningan fights afterwards. Both men were down in that bout.
The strange thing is that both guys (especially Ganigan) had crushing power and this one went the distance if I'm thinking of the right one. It was a fun fight for sure.
good power, below average boxing skills, mediocre chin. Such ingredients make exciting fights. The upset of O'Grady was probably his biggest win. Sean engaged him in a toe to toe war and he came in second. That fight never should have happened, as Pat O'Grady got Sean stripped of the WBA title and would have defended against the competent, but hardly powerfull, Claude Noel.
Thought the Hawaiian punch was going to make a big move after the O'Grady upset but Saad pointed out his weaknesses, wasn't to be.
Wow-what a 2 round war.Did these guys ever learn anything about defense?Very fan friendly battle.:thumbsup
