    Appreciation Thread
Andrzej Golota is a 6'4 Retired Heavyweight Boxer with a 41-9-1 33 KO's 9 KO Losses. Born 1968-01-05 in Warsaw, Poland and Chicago, Illinois, USA. The 1988 Olympic Bronze Medalist at Heavyweight. When this Cold Wind Blew In From The East the outcome was a decidedly mixed bag Andrew started out with a real bang he had a 28-0 25 KO's record barreling through many a bum in impressive highlight reel fashion on his way to his legendary foul filled wars with Riddick Bowe. He was beast and a very entertaining one at the that he'd work behind his jab for a few minutes and the moment he got you vaguely hurt he'd go in for the kill and unleash his combinations and pound his opponents into submission. Then came Bowe-Golota I & II two of the best Heavyweight matches of the 1990's a fact which is sadly overlooked because of the controversial nutshot that ended the first in a DQ and the brilliant nutshot 3 punch combination that ended the second the same way. The first match was followed by a massive riot in which Golota was attacked and Lou Duva was knocked out cold and was being kicked and stomped. The most maddening thing about the matches was that Golota was winning both of them clearly at the times of the DQ's the lowblows were completely unnecessary he was beating the hell out of Bowe in both matches but he just couldn't help himself. Then in the ultimate form of karmic justice Golota in his following match got KO1 by Lennox Lewis and his career never fully recovered but he had ups and downs.

Golota mounted somewhat of a comeback racking up UD's over Corey Sanders and Tim Witherspoon and he got a shot against the undefeated Michael Grant who he dropped in the first round and was leading on points up until the 10th in which he was dropped and he told the ref he didn't want to continue. His bad luck continued when Tyson KO'd him in 3, but he managed to get a draw against Byrd and a razor close UD loss to Ruiz a match in which he put John down twice. But then his career went into freefall after that with KO losses to Austin, Brewster, and the saddest of all a tubby Golota being KO'd in front of a Polish audience by Poland's next big hope in Adamek and finally he ended his career after a KO loss to another Pole in Saleta. Granted Andrew was a bit of a weak minded and weak willed crackpot who had a pretty glassy chin and a hell of a self destructive streak in the ring but he could have been great if he didn't have these glaring flaws. So Enjoy this retrospective of the very entertaining and underrated but dirty at times (he bit someone too) Polish Prince Of Chicago The Warsaw Warrior Andrew Golota.:toney:toney:toney:toney

Not a huge fan of Adamek, I grew up watching Golota so I'm a little more fond of him than Tomasz, but I'll give it some consideration.:think

Golota's speech slurring is really bad, even on the conan show in his "prime".

Didn't realize he was on Conan of all places

The funniest part of his career was how he wasted his prime with his antics only to make a serious run at the titles when he was over the hill. It has been argued that he deserved the Byrd and Ruiz wins which could have given him 2 belts and really saved his resume.

Even vs Brewster he was down 3 times but never looked like he was actually knocked out and kept getting up.

Why don't you like Adamek CST? He was in some great fights with Briggs and one great fight vs Cunningham

Thing is Adamek is Highlander. Golota is a nightclub bouncer.

Prime Golota would kill Adamek. Prime Golota was a real good fighter, with better psych he would be HW Champ in the 90´. His fights with Bowe where great, sadly he try to punch Bowe´s eggs to the moon.

**** golota. The guy was genuinely re****ed. His place was in an asylum, not in the ring. He also fought dumb.

And when you hear a fighter's own trainer not believing his fighter claims of having a broken jaw and trying to force him to stay in the ring, you know you're dealing with some serious mental and behavioural issues from that fighter.

Adamek would absolutely EMBARRASS Golota. It would hardly be competitive.

Quitters deserves no tribute. Andre Golota was a disgrace and so are his supporters.
