Perhaps the two dirtiest ranked heavyweights in the history of gloved boxing. How does this one play out?
Golota vs Larry Holmes anyone? Just as a matter of curiosity, I had a look on wikipedia. Andrew Golota born 5th January 1968. So yeah, January is Golota month.
Actually, the Pole's birthday is on January 5th (he turned 49 last Thursday), so quite fitting that there have been three posts about him so far this month .
Golota by late stoppage. I see the Polish boxing legend beating Godfrey similar to how he stopped Danell Nicholson.
Great potential match-up you mention atop: Holmes vs. Golota. Assuming both fought their absolute best on the night they fought, it's a very close call picking the winner. One thing is for sure, though: we'd have ourselves a classic and it would be a much more competitive affair than was Holmes' match with Cooney. Anyhow, both Larry and Andrew had good movement and balance, and perhaps Larry edges Andrew in the ring intelligence department. Both also have excellent jabs, with Larry probably edging Andy in that regard also. Golota is a come-at-you type of fighter who will wear you down. Not the typical "stand-up" Eastern European boxer. He was game. We all saw what he did to Bowe, how he exposed Michael Grant, or frustrated Danell Nicholson. "Terrible" Tim Witherspoon fought both Holmes as well as Golota, and said afterwards that Andrew hit harder than anyone he has ever faced in his career. In the end, I feel that the Polish heavyweight legend's power will just prove too much for the "Easton Assassin" and it's Golota who has his hand raised in victory.
