I think Golota eats about a dozen or so jabs before that little voice goes off inside his head, and he starts doing the Whack-A-Mole thing with Wlad's cup.

I'm not so sure that mattered with Golota. He was tagged by plenty of straight rights in his career. He once had pretty good head and upper body movement, but with his style he was there to be hit.

If it was 1996 Golota versus pre-Steward Wladimir, the first guy who lands something big would have a good chance of winning the fight, and that would be established (probably) by who controlled the measured battle of the jabs from the onset.

In the long haul, over all, Wlad's jab is more proven than Golota's when it comes to consistency and longevity. But Golota of 1995-96 had a fabulous jab of his own, and may have been more aggressive and less measured with his than Wladimir.

Even with the best Golota versus a greener Wlad, I still cannot put too much faith in Andrew. Have to favor Wlad, even in that scenario.

I agree with your assessment. Golota has all the talent, but I too don't believe he can weather the storm.

I guess some of the Golata backers are still singing his praises after that Brewster blowout. Thanks for backing him to the extent of making him a 5-2 favorite over Lamon in that one.

But he's not unlike Norton or Bruno when they face the hitters and get hurt. They just don't escape and it's all over quick. They just don't have the defense to avoid getting clipped. Come to think of it, Bruno and Golata is interesting and I wonder which guy would be resilient enough to win?

I have been keeping up with this thread for a while now, and went back and watched as many Golota fights as I could. If we are talking a prime Andrew Golota here, I have to say that I give him the edge over Wlad, for reasons that have been listed by various posters before me. Just my 2 cents worth..

I'm afraid he does. The fact that almost all of his losses were by KO/stoppage proves the "glass jaw" hypothesis.

No way Jose. Golota's chin is weaker than Wlad's? What? Dude, Wlad lost nearly all of his fights by stoppage. And Golota was legitimately injured which is why he surrendered against Tyson. You said yourself Golota got robbed against Ruiz and therefore beat him (well if he hung in there with a frustrating fighter like Ruiz then wasn't that an example of Golota holding it together? This is where I think you contradicted yourself).

Wrong again. Golota never quit. He got disqualified for hitting low (and he hit low accidentally, not intentionally to be DQ'd). Huge difference there.

It would be a very interesting match-up between these two big men, a battle for Slavic heavyweight supremacy. I actually believe Wlad frustrates Andrew often throughout the fight and the Pole eats a lot of the Ukrainian's jabs. Despite this, Golota's aggression and power punch would eventually break down the glass jaw of "Dr. Steelhammer" and Andy pulls off the stoppage probably somewhere around the 10th. If the fight was taking place in New York and Atlantic City, Golota's chances of winning would be even that much higher because he would have home support from the frenized crowd. The Polish fans would heavily outnumber the Ukrainian supporters of Wlad.

Golota quit against Michael Grant....Michael ****ing Grant.

I dont think Golota could beat Peters or McCline, let alone Wlad.

The washed up Bowe that Golota made his career off, would have been put to sleep by Wlad.

Golota actually is a decent foil for spoilers who lack power and aggression, but even then hes erratic.

Frustrating fighter yes but given that Golota dropped him twice and Ruiz couldn't hurt him he never needed to fold really.

He had every intention. Doing the same thing twice at the same point in the fight. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Andrew quit against Grant because he (Golota) thought he was losing the fight on the judges' scorecards and his corner was telling him that he needed to look good in the late rounds. Sam Peter was highly overrated. Golota wins a UD there.

And McCline? Hmm, it's a tough one, but with Andrew being quicker that should be enough to win the fight for him. McCline would be gassed by the 11th trying to chase Golota around the ring.

Wlad will keep him at bay with his decent but narrow defensive system, until he gets popped out.

If that doesnt happen, G tires in time and wlad burys the gasping Pole late on.

Its too dangerous a fight for wlad, he wouldnt take it.
