Just saw the body shot, nice...

WTF happened with Selby, though? How do you start off a performance that well and then implode? Total choke job.

Hardly mismanaged, he never did himself any favours. He was shitting the place out on free TV in the UK (one of the few fighters who had free TV at the time), then goes off the rails. Sanigar's aren't responsible for:
    • The death of his mother and aunt
    • His split with his partner and no longer sees his daughter
    • His fracas with a taxi driver that went to Magistrates Court and saw him given a fine and community order
    • Or being forced to attended court-ordered counselling (which caused the inactivity)

Jesus Christ, he's not dead, he just lost by KO no big deal, he can pick up the pieces, regroup, figure out what went wrong, come back better the next time.

Mismanaged as in, he should not be going to Mexico after having a long layoff. They are responsible for getting him a good promotional deal even if that's far down on an undercard, he's one of the most talented fighters we have. Yes he's had big problems out of the ring but his team should have been guiding him. Just annoyed as it's wasted talent.

Of course could also be that Julio César Martínez is simply the better fighter.

They are responsible for getting him the biggest opportunities. This is a world title eliminator to get a shot at the WBC title held by a fellow Brit. If he wins, as almost everyone expected, he gets a shot at Edwards. His lay off, technically was just a few months (having fought in October). He could have wasted another year on under-cards, turned 31.

The Flyweight division is a tough division (not one of the truly best but still tough). The WBC title was the most straight forward to go for, with the eventual shot coming in the UK. Tanaka and Dalakian are well backed, Mthalane has a mandatory and will begin to look for money bouts next (something Selby isn't). This was pretty much the most logical choice they could have taken, and through 3 rounds it looked the right choice.

Like I said before on another thread tonight, Charlie Edwards is the best flyweight in the UK. I said that before Selby fought, fully cognizant of the fact that he shares a division with Edwards. I genuinely think Charlie is better, and after the events of tonight, I'm probably right.:D

Eh...nah. I made the right choice. A live 12-rounder with good action from start to finish >>>>>>>>>>> a fight that starts out a boring clinic by one guy for two rounds, followed by two rounds of him still doing the only effective work in between sloppy clinches, followed by the other guy scoring a come from behind KO with a body shot. IMO.

Surprising result but still. Román vs. Blanco was a better watch.

It's the first time apart from Rosales that Selby has fought someone around Top 10 in the World and he failed the fighters he has been fighting were average really....got exposed today back to the drawing board.!!!!

That's a shame, I was high on Andrew Selby a few years back.. Talented kid. But something always been a miss about both he & his brother, talented but neither really seemed to be arsed about boxing! I mean Andrew once even said he hates the sport.. Doesn't like it, doesn't like training etc they never showed huge amounts of ambition either.. Didn't fight regularly enough. He ho, it is what it is..

    Bit of a waste both.

I mean...he arguably didn't win any of the completed rounds. Yes he ultimately got the KO but could be that it being in a tiny ring at 8600 feet which Selby had only a few days to acclimate to had more to do with it than Martínez himself did.
