Andrey Sirotkin vs. Ricardo Mayorga RBR

Round 1

Sirotkin is starting out aggressive, jabbing the belly and face of Mayorga, standing in front of him and teeing off. Mayorga is baiting him, showboating, letting him get free shots. Light dusting of jabs all over by Sirotkin. Mayorga just hanging back and biding his time in a predatory coil, drawing the hammer on the right hand and firing when Sirotkin begins to stray in too close, over-eager with his jab success. Mayorga clips him with a few grazing rights but is largely outworked and outlanded.

Round 2

Sirotkin is proving to be a switch-hitter, changing his stance and jabbing with either hand. So far nothing but jabs from Sirotkin, nary a cross or hook in sight. Mayorga is circling to his left and soaking up flurries on his forearms. Mayorga tires of holding up his arms, stepping boldly inside with both down by his waist. Sirotkin jabs at the nose and navel of Mayorga with his right, and starts threading in lefts on the opposite plane (crossing high when landing a jab low, and vice-versa). Sirotkin comfortably landing the 1-2 and using quick feet to never get drawn into a brawl with Mayorga.

Sirotkin appears to be not as bad as I'd written him off as being after just viewing the Yeremenko bout.

That, or Mayorga is completely spent and has no business getting licensed anymore.

Or a little of both.

Then again, El Matador could just be waiting to see if the kid gasses before launching a genuine attack in deep waters..

Thus far this is a boxing lesson, easy work for the Bull.

Round 3

Sirotkin very successful with the right jab, scoring it from a standstill with his legs splayed, heels aligned with his outer shoulder, as well as in a forward-leaping thrust, pushing off the planted ball of the rear shoe. Mayorga has no answer, his face getting skewered by jab after jab from the much faster-handed and fleeter-footed & more agile southpaw. A few daredevil moves from an increasingly brave Sirotkin, jumping in with a sweeping left across the bottom of the chin and clinching before spinning Mayorga away to start up his circling rhythm again. Mayorga just winging the occasional haymaker and missing.

Sirotkin is winning me over. I was here for Mayorga, originally, hoping to see him get on the scoreboard at some unheralded prospect's expense, but now if this ends up being a coup for the Russian Bull it won't bother me. Not the same as watching Soto Karass lose to an unworthy and ugly-styled punk like Abreu last night.

 

Round 4

Sirotkin is jabbing wherever he wants and doing so whenever he wants. Sirotkin completely bossing it, master of terrain and firmly established ring general by this point. Mayorga just clumsily whirling in place to keep up. Sirotkin gliding around throwing dart-like southpaw jabs at Mayorga, sprinkling in some looping lead lefts, switching stances and landing hard 1-2s, showing he can generate power with that right when using it as the rear hand by snapping Mayorga's head back a few times. Mayorga is just pawing with jabs that Sirotkin is easily picking off in midair, shooting into them like clay piegons.

1) I think after tonight we can probably retire the #VamosMayorga hashtag/bandwagon and its namesake should follow suit...

2) Sirotkin is lovely to watch, putting on a clinic here. I misjudged him based solely on the match with Yeremenko.

 

Round 5

Sirotkin is pistol-whipping Mayorga with the left now, giving him no respect anymore. Sirotkin is now the one applying pressure and walking down Mayorga in spots. Mayorga is still dangerous enough by reputation that Sirotkin never marches all the way in or gets careless, but the offense is one-way traffic. Mayorga pushing a few short rights in where he can but unable to locate the chin of Sirotkin cleanly, and seems like he is punching through molasses. Jabs all day by Sirotkin.

Round 6

Sirotkin is darting in and out, drawing the lead from Mayorga, then countering with the 1-2. Mayorga catches him with a few short rights off the hip, landing obliquely on the jaw. Sirotkin hurries outside whenever he is touched. One in particular seems to be moderately hurtful, but he recovers quickly. Sirotkin is loading up on left uppercuts and hacking overhands falling in and tying up momentarily. Sirotkin is sashaying in, landing jabs, and getting out before Mayorga can get off. Mayorga down, slip. More jabs by Sirotkin.

Round 7

Sirotkin is drilling Mayorga into the ropes with a series of successive piston-like straights with both hands! Mayorga getting popped at better than a 90% clip!! Sirotkin could force a stoppage depending on this referee's temperament! Mayorga offering nothing in return. Sirotkin just shredding Mayorga's face with jabs and left crosses. Landing sharp and spiteful blows with laser-guided accuracy. Mayorga is leaning into the ropes and flailing away in a weak parrying attempt. Hardly any counter punches. A few light jabs pawed by Mayorga. He looks AWFUL. The corner should think about stopping it.
