This would be to both their benefit.

think about it: Berto is a top contender now........but since that cosme rivera experience he would probably be better off not facing a huge hitter, at least not right now.
cotto, margo, cintron.........such fights would be very risky, cause sharing the ring with either can ruin your career.

so how can Berto "ease" his way into championship level???

    enter quintana.

sure, he shocked everyone with his win over williams, but he is still the "odd man out" among the welter champs.
his loss to cotto (better said the nature of the loss) is still too present in everyones mind:
is quintana really that good.........or did he just have williams number etc.

and what makes quintana attractive for berto is that stylewise, he would probably suit him the best.......or at least provide the easiest fight among welter champs.
    and he aint a puncher........

and all the other big names at welter are busy.

so for quintana, a win over berto could make him better known and help make people forget / forgive that brutal loss to cotto.

for berto, its a step into the waters of the elite. once he wins, people will take him for real. and berto can start banging the drum to get PBF into a ring with him...........you know, for the big bucks!!!

so this fight would be very very attractive for either fighter imo.

my pick: berto by late stoppage.

Id like o see this fight, but if I were Bertos handler I would hold off on Carlos. . . he's a defense first fighter -doesnt bring the fight - doesnt bring the money, I would put him up with a lesser skilled defensive guy first.

Carlos is looking to get paid. I doubt he would give Berto a second thought right now. If I'm Carlos, I'm looking at rematch with Williams or a fight with Margarito or Cintron next.

I'd pick Quintana by wide UD at this point.

Berto is yet to face a upper echelon WW - Quintana would beat him if they fought now.. In a year or so - if Quintana is still champ, why not.

Berto doesn't bring enough money to the table.

Quintana knows that with the belt - he has options - and Berto is probably at the bottome of that list.

I would say Berto might take it to Quintana.
Although Quintana beat PW, i did see alot of holes in his game. That just goes to show you what i have thought of PW all along.

Berto's team won't go near the Q. The Q would give him fits and box his way to a win. No disrespect to Berto, I think he's a terrific young fighter. It's just that that the Q is all wrong for him. That said, I'd love to see the bout.:smoke :smoke

Have to be honest with you, we asked Lou DiBella that very question on 'Toe2Toe' this past Sunday night and he said that Berto WAS NOT ready for Quintana... which really surprised us.

"a lot of holes in his game"? I thought he boxed excellent, considering his opposition. What did you see? The only thing I saw is that PW was not throwing any uppercuts, and I thought he might have been able to get through with some when Quintana came in with those power rights. Otherwise I thought he did an excellent job of waiting, countering, and letting PW come right into him

To answer the thread I would put my money on Quintana. As I have always said; Berto WILL lose to a B+ or better boxer (slick or highly skilled that is). Malignaggi would have a hayday with him

100% correct, Quintana upset Williams and is now in the position for big-money fights, by fighting someone like Berto he is wasting an opportunity most thought he would never have.
BTW, If they were to fight I'd take Quintana by UD, Berto has fought nothing but heavy bags to date.

This would be an easy way for Berto to get a belt, I want to see him fight it out with some legit contenders first before he goes jonesin' for one of those belts.
