    Per boxing scene.

This came outta the blue, but this is probably for the best. Wish Fonfora nothing but the best!

Probably for the best, I was close to 100% that E-Rod was going to decapitate him anyway. Retiring now, at least he goes out on a win.

Yep for the best as his punch resistance had gone.
I was such a fan of Fonfara before those losses.

Fonfara said that his heart just isn't 100% committed to fighting any more.

Maybe that's true and maybe he won't be back. But I don't think that's dead-certain.

Look at Beibut Shumenov - he told the world in 2017 that he had a very serious chronic eye injury and that he couldn't even think of trying to continue his boxing career, and that he had to retire with immediate effect and that he couldn't even get a boxing license in his native Kazakhstan.

And he stayed away for all of 8 months because the retirement turned out to be just a tactic to get his promoter at the time to tear up their contract.

Fonfara was dead set on moving up to CW in early 2018. So I never understood why that fight got made with Edwin Rodriguez. Maybe he just wants out of his deal with PBC and he's borrowing a page from Shumenov's playbook?

Must be hard to admit that the desire is not there.
I imagine he was in the gym and each day he felt more and more that he no longer belonged there. It's a really shitty feeling.
Usually fighters admit it too late, even if they have known it for a while.

It didn't, he was scheduled to fight him in early March, but he pulled out and retired.

Good choice in his case. He would be a gatekeeper in a strong division anyway, and if his heart isn't in it then it's for the best.
