Fonfara just eeked it out for me. Close, but I thought he edged it on the cleaner power punches as the fight wore on.

Not a bad fight, but one that shows Fonfara is what he is at this level. Closer to fringe contender than champion material, but you can't really take him lightly despite looking just OK. Stevenson shouldn't have gone life and death with him, but he's probably the kind of fighter that's harder to fight in the ring than he looks on film.

Fonfara did a good job, Ngumbo was a Bika like pain in the ass awkward fighter it wasn't a spectacular win but a good win

  6. I wouldn't mind seeing Ngumbu again.

    He makes fun, weird-looking fights.

I actually had it a draw in terms of rounds, five to five, but had given Fonfara the 5th as 10-8 since there should've been a knockdown called when he bashed Ngumbu prone on the ropes, and that edged it for the Prince on my card.

Very disappointing from Fonfara, especially when he had him rocked in the 5th and didn't show any killer instinct. Ngumbu was laughably uncoordinated and he still couldn't capitalise, puts the performance against Adonis in perspective.

Stevenson is a paper champ. He can punch, that's it.

People that call him "skilled"...

Also, people cite the late Emanuel Steward having seen lots of promise in him...well, Manny was right a lot but he was also wrong a lot too. He was maybe half right on Stevenson. He got a belt and he knocked out Dawson, that much he was right about. He isn't special, though.

Stevenson is what I called athletic boxer, one that relies on athletic gifts. He keeps his hands low and everything predictably sets up his left hand. He's really not that skilled and he hasn't show the ability to adapt down the stretch.

Kovalev has a much better skillset than Stevenson both offensively and defensively.

Horrible risk reward for Fonfara. He'll move onward and upward.

Entertaining fight. Some of the commentators' scoring was contrary to mine. In the 2nd round they gave it to doo-doo but I disagree because to me AF was landing legitimate punches on legitimate areas while DN landed a lot of slaps and forearm shivers to the side of the neck and shoulders that snapped Fonfara's head dramatically on several occasions but still those weren't legitimate punches to legitimate targets.

I don't see Fonfara going any farther than he already is though. He seemed to lack any sense of urgency when he had Ngumbu hurt, no lateral movement, no upper body movement, no head movement. He has a "stone wall defense" and like they say a man with a hammer will destroy that stone wall.
