Assuming Andrzej Golata is actually Andrew Golata, then I think he'd likely beat Coetzer. Pierre was a decent fighter in a fringe sense. But I think Andrzej/Andrew would be too strong for him.
Coetzer had a great chin on him though. He took an awful lot of powerful punches from Bruno and Foreman. I don't think Golota would stop him, so it depends whether Golota can outbox him and keep it together for 12 rounds. I have my doubts about Golota, for obvious reasons.
You could be right. But I don't think Coetzer was the type of imposing fighters who could force Golata into one of his "freak outs" and quit. Andrew also put some nasty beatings on Riddick Bowe who I seriously thought was going to die in there at one point. Not sure Coetzer would endure that.
The second Bowe fight was especially nasty. Bowe had the heart of a lion. The fight should have been stopped much much earlier.
I agree. Bowe was needlessly taking punishment in there. Of course I've always acknowledged that Golata's illegal low blows also likely had an impact on Bowe's decline on those evenings. But even some of the jabs Andrew was hitting him with were snapping his head back. Brutal fights.
To commemorate his life. I had a Ronald Reagan campaign poster as an avatar for a few day previous to this Castro one. Featuring Ali, Frazier and Patterson. I may return to that shortly. But for now it's Castro.
I'd favour Golota. He was the better technician and faced generally better opposition. Coetzer was durable and game for sure, but lacked the power to hurt the best heavies and was too one-dimensional. I think it would be a good fight though, but Golota had more to his game. Either he wins on points or stops the cut-prone Coetzer on cuts.
