i am pretty sure Erislandy Lara called him out and before you give me the Cold War BS, GGG's last fight wasn't even on HBO!! Why can't they do the same this time around?
Lara wants a Canelo fight, i doubt moving up to 160 to take a beating is the path they want to take. Why wasn't Lara more vocal before the Lee fight got scheduled ?
There plan is to fight 4 times year. Once over seas and 3 times in america on HBO. Same as last year. So for that to happen, it would have to be in 2015. And I don't believe Lara's handlers would agree to it anyway. GGG takes him out in 6 rounds. It was a nice ploy by Lara to get his name out there though.
the Lee fight wasnt made...........ggg's promoter came out and said Lara wasnt "HBO approved" LOL, WHAT BS! and andy lee is?! al haymon manages lara. arreola is also an al haymon fighter and he has appeared on HBO. It is a clear duck from GGG's team. im not knocking GGG himself. he will fight anyone but its his promoters.
Yes! he is in the same division as the charlo brothers who also have the same trainer in ronnie shields so they would never fight each other ...and the charlo brothers are gonna become world champs. ggg team straight ducked lara. a duck is a duck is a duck is a duck.
Shut up, Ronnie Shields was on air Sunday night on The Week End Wrap and it was all about Canelo, they don't want a Golovkin fight and they're not moving up.
Because theyre contracted for 3 fights on HBO this year...... and because if its not on HBO the USA audience cant get to legit watch the fight.... and because he gets paid more fighting on HBO. All Lara has to do is motivate his "Adviser" to actually pick up the phone and call Hershmann and get HBO to approve the fight, and the fight will get made. Its really not that hard.
thats not the point! the real point is ggg team responded to lara calling them out by ducking him!:bart
exactly. It's not team GGG's job to get Lara approved to fight on a network. And I would love to see this fight happen.
lara's advisor is al haymon! many argue he is the most powerful person in boxing. once HBO stop getting their panties in a twist about floyd leaving them, the fight should be made!! this year the cold war will finally end! interview with ggg trainer abel sanchez: B/R: You keep mentioning HBO, is Gennady an HBO fighter now? No, not necessarily yet. We havent signed any kind of agreement but HBO is the one who took a chance on him so Gennady is thinking hes got to be loyal to the company that did take a chance. I am sure if that if they (HBO) puts something together I am sure that Tom (Loeffler, promoter) and the management will make sure that they give HBO the first opportunity to make the guy a superstar.
wow the Lara not being "HBO approved" is made -up BS. Lara was involved in one of the fights of the year vs angulo. how did ggg promoters come out with a tweet on a monday saying he is not hbo approved after lara called them out over the weekend?! 1 weekend and HBO give their answer about lara?!?!?:bart
No its not BS. Also your above Abel quote is old - after Stevens fight GGG is now officially an HBO fighter, which is why last years Ishida fight at MC was available in the States (albeit on small-time boutique PPV) but this years Adama fight at MC was not available at all (ESPN would have carried the Octapixx distributor feed if US rights werent owned by HBO). Heres how it works - for ANY HBO fight, including GGG, when HBO gives a fight date to a promoter. HBO has a list of fights it wants to see. It sends the list to the promoter, who approves or dissapproves certain fights (usually with consultation with fighters management and the actual fighter). The promoter can also make suggestions of course. Depending on how much HBO likes a matchup, depends on whether they will put up the TV and purse for the fight, and in many cases the size of the purse. The promoter who has the fight date then takes the HBO numbers for approved bouts, does their own numbers on gate and such, then makes offers to the promoters of the fighters that are being considered for the date. (unless its an in-house promotion, in which case it goes to the B-side management but thats obviously not the case ever with GGG). Then after negotiations, the promoter of record who has the HBO date finalizes whichever deal they consider best from their negotiations with various camps. The fight is held. In the case of Lara, he is not on the approved list by HBO. Thus, there is no purse guarantee nor even a guarantee that HBO will air the bout. Laras management/promoter are the people who could potentially change that. There is pretty much nothing K2 can do about that, despite how popular/trending GGG is at the moment K2 still has nowhere near the overall clout of a Top Rank and cant force HBO to do anything. The only people who can do anything are Haymon and Schaeffer, by working things out with Hershmann. Its that simple. If you want to troll someone, go troll GBP and Haymon for keeping Lara fighting infrequently on undercards and not working with HBO.
