I agree to a point, but a lot of the problem is how these fighters are marketed to the public. Err, make that aren't marketed at all. Creativity rules at this point in time in today's economy and most of these promoters aren't creative at all. The only reason I disagree is that some mid-tier fighters are drawing huge crowds. Brinkley and Gilbert put 7,000 fans in the seats in Reno. Ricardo Williams and Aaron Pryor Jr put 5,500 in the seats in Cincy a few weeks back. The key is taking boxing back to its roots. Hometown crowds, grassroots marketing, smaller, but packed venues. The Pavlik fight in Youngstown was one of the loudest, most electric crowds I've ever been a part of. The trend I think we're going to see is bye-bye Vegas, more local and regional shows. I agree, though, that the Winky-Williams fight will struggle. Williams should be a mega star. Just not enough big picture vision and creativity out there right now for some of these fighters.

You are very correct sir. Put Kelly Pavlik fighting Paul Williams at 160 for the Middleweight Crown in Youngstown, and that is a major, local sell out. Vegas, at this point is fine for a Megafight, but horrid for a mid tier fight. Toney vs. Hopkins would sell fine at the MGM Grand, but Hopkins against Adamek would lose $$$ in the same venue.

I actually don't mind fights moving away from Vegas. The first four rows on all sides of the ring go to celebrities and whales anyway. Let's bring it back to the people!
