Andy Lee: "I would be very confident in stopping Sturm"

Much improved fighter, I just don't think he's the one to stop Sturm.

I like Lee, always have. He has some things to work on but technically he can look brilliant. I'd say its all mental with him i.e. how much does he want to protect his chin, is he confident enough to let the 2, 3 and 4 shots go and so on...

Murray, Macklin among others are shitters chosen for Sturm to beat. It just so happened he looked bad and everyone thinks Macklin and Murray are world class fighters. IF they are its because the division is so weak. I'd have to think that is the case with Chavez as champ. Martinez, Pirog, Sturm etc need to fight it out to decide the top few guys.

Nevertheless, Lee would be a dangerous fight for Sturm. Huge credit if he wins but Lee has ALL the tools to beat Felix.

 

Lee best chance will be the finish Sturm in the first half IMO. Lee ALWAYS gasses in the later half of the fight, thats when Sturm could come on strong and maybe force a stoppage.

 

Sturm's on the slide, but I still don't think Lee's anything special. Sturm's good at ad******g to his opponent's style during a fight and coming on strong during the later rounds, and I don't think either of those traits bode well for Lee.

 

I'd really favour Lee in with Sturm, he'd need to stop him though because it's unlikely he would get the nod.

 

I reckon he's awkward enough to land something big against the ultra-basic Sturm, who isn't anything more than a well-backed top-notch Euro-level fighter.

 

Sturm has a good chin and I dont know if Andy could crack it but I would give him a good chance, hopefully he can get the shot because win or lose it shouldnt be bad for his carear ala Macklin and Murray.

 

agreed, Sturm is there for the taking, key to beating him is to stay composed and calm during the 1st 2 minutes of a round and then to outdo him when he trys to come on strong in the last minute. Lee has the tools to keep Sturm on the end of the jab before wacking in those solid lefts later in the rounds.

 

Sturm is on the slide and there for the taking but.... he is tough, he does have a good defense and home advantange ie ref isnt going to wave it off if he is taking a bit of a pummeling. However Lee does have a dig but does he really have that one big, perfectly timed punch in him?

I dont think his defence is all that special, it appears good because hes tough enough to absorb shots without budging, if you look closely though he still gets caught through the middle and behind the gloves, his lack of head movement and his habit of gripping the canvas with his feet rather than moving out of range would allow the right fighters like GGG and Lee to hammer away with jabs and straights, mixed in with bodyshots. To this day i cannot believe Macklin did not walk away with the WBA belt strapped around his waist.

 

I really doubt Lee would stop Sturm. Even now. I like the kid a lot but I don't rate him all that highly. He can look excellent, and Sturm can look decidedly ordinary, but I think the truth is Lee's just a good fighter and Sturm is a very good fighter at his best who even no longer at his best is too careful, sound and professional to let Lee look excellent. This kid was beating the ever-loving bejesus out of Vera and couldn't get a stoppage with Vera's chin carrying a flashing, neon "Hit me" sign. He's got one standout shot and Sturm would be waiting on it, all night. I think Sturm would as likely win on the cards as not, to boot. Andy's a true blue fan-friendly fighter with some polish, but he's simply not going all that far, I suspect.
