only in recent years have they being doing well at junior level as well as doing much better at senior level in fact the whole set up has changed for the better and Ireland are one of the top nations in the world in amateur boxing , I think you will see this at the next world and olympic games. I think you will see a lot more senior success in the coming years with the likes of Burnett , Quigley and Ward if they stay am .

Seem to remember Macklin slagging of Barker say he was a better amateur as he won a medal in a jr event and Barker only won a Commwealth gold.

Macklin won ABA's I beleive and fought for England right??

Isn't Lee fighting Vera on HBO in August? Would HBO rather the Barker fight, if so, that would be great. Can't see Lee taking the fight if it's on Sky Sports in front of a crowd of 2,000 people when he can fight Vera on HBO and set himself up for a world title.

Does Barker have to fight his mandatory next? Maybe the fight could happen around November.

Kavanagh is feather fisted. I don't think he'll go all the way. Boxers like Maidana and Katsidis would eat him for breakfast.

The facilities and conditions were once not there to do well at the higher senior level, but not since the high performance programme team has been introduced, ireland has been pretty much holding its own aginst the top amateru countries around.

kav faught his first 3 fights a lw aswell hes just after droppin down a weight to sfw so lets see how hes gets on here before you call him feather fisted

btw he was killin fools with body shots when he won silver at the world youths..thinked he stopped two or three

he certainley isnt feather fisted , he hasnt stopped all his opponents but thats because he is fighting tough mexican journeymen instead of your avergae european cans . pacquioa even said he has good power after sparring him .he will stop lads on accumulation rather than straight kos .

I mean when he steps it up, boxers like Kats and Maidana who'll walk him down will give him nightmares. Of course I'm not talking about him fighting the likes of them now. But you either have power or you don't and Kavanagh has Malignaggi type power. Unless you're insanely skilled, it's very difficult to make it to the top with no power.

He's moved down from 140 to 135. I hope he proves me wrong but it's hard for me to think he'll go all the way with no power.

Hes my friends cousin, kavanagh. Freddie roach actually thinks hes a banger and is going places, so i'll take his word for it. Looks static and stands off an admires his work to much from what i've seen, but thats sparring very good fighters at the wild card. I personally think hes going places.

I have my doubts about Kavanagh too...

When I say I have my doubts, I mean i'm sure he'll be high end european level and maybe knocking on the door of world titles but I dont see him being the king in a particular division and being say p4p top 20 at any stage.

Then again it is very early, I hope i'm wrong cos he's a lovely boxer and seems like a decent lad.
