Fair comment, just dont like mismatches. The fact it aint on tv is hardly an excuse, if it aint on tv why have the fight at all?? Why not give an Irish or Brit fighter a payday on an undercard over here and put something back into Irish/British boxing??
Like I said Lee wanted Barker! You can't hold Barker up as an example of someone who is willing to take risks when he is in the position he is in by beating the same guy Andy beat previously and more convincingly. Barker has been a pro for 6 years and the Macklin fight is the first real step up he's made. Look at his record, he's hardly a risk taker.
I dont rate Barker as highly as Lee as ive stated previously, Barker is fighting Macklin next who is better than anybody Lee has fought.
Fair enough but Lee is two years behind Barker as a pro so it's not shocking that Barker is (only now) fighting better opposition.
Lee has been a pro for a simular time and hasnt made a step up either. All I see is Lee and his team, and fans coming out with the big talk but never backing it up.
Barker has been a pro for 6 years and is only now stepping up a level, all I hear from his fans is how he is technically superior to this guy and too slick for that guy but he has shown in the Belgecham fight that he is not up to the task and when Macklin is through with him there will be no doubting that he is nothing more than a hypejob. Lee surpassed Barker in the amateurs and will also surpass anything he does as a pro, count on it.
See this is on the basis of one fight. Name me one fighter in history who didn't have at least 1 bad fight? If that were the case we would all be talking about how **** Lee is because he lost to Vera. He had an off night. Sure if he has **** fights as he steps up all the time we will know he ain't got it. But to judge him solely of the back of his last **** fight is just tedious!!!
I'm not basing it on one fight, he has never impressed me. Barker can look great but so far only against mediocre opposition, he has no power to speak of and his chin is not the best. I can appreciate his skill but as an overall package he just isn't good enough in my opinion.
Well we will all find out for sure when he steps through the ropes against Macklin. As for Lee we won't know untill he fights someone.
Okay *deep breath* Lee is the most popular fighter in the Republic. He fights in Limerick because it's his home town. To get to Dunne levels of popularity, he would have to win a world title. Dunne was only filling The Point at the end of his career. He was huge in Ireland. Dunne was a sensation who had all the Dubs behind him also. One sell out of Madison Square Gardens would make more money than Dunne v Cordoba and Poonsawat combined. Dunne was a big fish in a small pond and despite being the biggest boxing star in Ireland in recent years has not retired on a goldmine. Where the **** did I say that? Do you deliberately misinterpret people's posts just to give yourself an opportunity to sound like a *****? I said he can fill the void of Duddy's fanbase. By fighting out of New York. It's what fighters with ambition do, they wanna make big bucks and stateside is where stardom lies. I said nothing of him emulating Duddy's/Top Ranks way of picking opponents. Lee has ambition, if he gets offered a title shot, he'll take it by the scruff of the neck. Mark my words. I have already stated my opinion on the Vera rematch and why I think it is valid. Go back and read my post you ****ing moron. I said the Cook is a **** fight but better than no fight. How does that make me happy with it you arsehole. I genuinely have no doubt in my mind the Lee will win a world title and is a level above any middleweight in Britain or Ireland. So if thats not having faith, I don't know what is. Don't tell me why I should or shouldn't support a fighter, I'll support whoever the **** I want and I won't pass you no apology. I'll support any Irish fighter who isn't a dickhead. Andy Lee is a nice guy, who is very talented and will take tough fights when he can get them. If he can't get a fight what the **** do you want him to do? Turn up at Barker's house and slap the head of him? Don't forget, Lee wanted that fight with Barker, it should be him fighting Macklin now because he would have destroyed Barker but boxing is corrupt and it didn't happen. Yet you somehow attribute that Lee not taking tough fights, like he refused that fight or something. Cop on to yourself lad. And if any Irish fighter I support pulls a "David Haye" I will call them out for being the **** they are. Comprende?
he got knocked down once against Paul Samuel a renowned banger, and he stopped Darren McDermott who had never been down as a pro. Lee has never impressed me, hes never stepped it and doesnt look like he will anytime soon
It's a fight on an ESPN undercard to give him a few rounds. Nothing wrong in a warm up / marking time fight. He hasn't been too active and only got 2 rounds last time out. Judge him when he steps up in competition. He did a better job against Belghecham than Barker did so he's going to be in the mix at European level soon enough.
