Whoa, unexpected. I still figured there were plenty of good match-ups left for him to hang around for a while...Lemieux, O'Sullivan, and rematches with Korobov/Quillin/Saunders (against whom Lee posted 1-1-1) all would've made dollars & sense...
That was a really solid run despite mixed results on paper. - stops amateur legend Korobov and finally wins gold - Extremely good fight with Quillin where he managed to overcome one of his notorious bad starts to salvage a draw against a top 10 fighter. - Same with Saunders. Good chess match where he managed to nearly overcome a terrible early start(2 heavy knockdowns) to come within a point or so of beating probably the 2nd best MW behind Golovkin. I'd argue that he kind of redeemed himself there of what was an otherwise disappointing career. That's a way to go out with dignity.
Spot on my thoughts as well. I think sometimes when fighters retire 'prematurely' like this, there might be behind the scenes health issues going on. Idk... nothing else really makes munch sense.
The modern version of Jackson/Graham. But this time the Jackson family member is on the receiving end of the KO punch.
There's a thread about who would make you a bit emotional if they retired, and I thought, "no one really," but now I see this and I'm like "Andy, no!"
