Already posted my thoughts in the other thread - suffice to say I am gutted! My favourite fighter of the recent era. A true fighting man, and as old skool as the come. Been in some back and forth action and pulled out the wins - can't beat it from a fans point of view. Unfortunately, since losing the belt he became too 'high risk' for all the fighters waiting on a GGG/Canelo pay-day, with not enough reward to make it worthwhile. I suspect that's why the Jacobs fight didn't happen. Lest we not forget that he actually won more rounds on the cards against BJS than Saunders did, and only lost cos of the KD's suffered. To essentially outbox Saunders looks pretty f'ing good to more people now I suspect! Farewell to the most admirable man in boxing. Thanks for entertaining us throughout the years, and congrats on a great career champ. And yeah, someone sign this man up as a commentator! He is by far the best we have in the UK!!!
What a shame, was hoping he’d have another crack at it with the division hotting up with Charlo ect I was looking forward to it. It’s been a while since his fight with Saunders where he never looked bad despite him being floored he still came away with some respectability but if his heart ain’t in it then fair play,no point in doing a Roy Jones and fighting on for the sake of it.
Will probably stick around and help Camp Booth out. all the best. Ill never forget that fight vs Jackson.
Well he obviously feels very strongly about it though I’m not sure it will have any impact and anti Gypitism exists because of what happens when they come to town,Every time I have this out with folk all I need ask is would you want em down the road? They used to ask my mother for free baby clothes on her market stall and when she refused would get cursed lol. I heard from a guy who lived in Appleby that there’s another class of gypsies who are well liked.
I'm sure he is doing the right thing , with his style and toughness he took a lot of clean head shots ... that isn't a good thing down the road . Wish him the best , he always gave it his all and had some good wins .
Andy has been knocked out too many times, he could punch, but his chin let him down. Wish he could have been more successful.....................but he needed to retire before he got brain damage.........
Here is a link to the show where Andy announced his retirement. It’s a great watch, with lots of insight into training, Kronk, and the business of boxing, alongside Andy’s personal anecdotes. Great stuff from a great fighter http://www.offtheball.com/Other-Sports/andy-lee-tributes
Was Andy Lee's knockout of Carl Daniels that really got me into boxing even though I would of been a fan of Bernard Dunne, my first live pro card was Lee versus McKay. He was a very exciting fighter and always in good tear ups even going back to his RTE days. He's had an incredible career from fighting all around the world with Ireland to fighting out of the Kronk gym with Manny to now. He's made a nice few quid and has a new job on Irish radio while also help train some friends of his in the pros such as Eric Donovan (Good prospect) Had the pleasure of meeting him a few times and he was an absolute top man and has one of the best highlight reel of KOs in the game . A career most could only dream about .
Would have loved to see Spike v Lee in Limerick, the Republic of Ireland just don't get the fights like the north do !
