Still, I saw disturbing similarities fight night with Taylor. Is Steward that hard to listen too? Hmm.... Not sure what to think now. http://www.setantasports.com/en/Sport/News/Other-sports/2008/3/23/Boxing-LeeSteward-on-defeat/?facets/sport-space/great-britain-locale/
Well you can't make someone listen to you. When it comes down to it, it's the fighter's choice whether to listen or not. I felt Andy wanted to impress the crowd with a John Duddy style, but he couldn't actually pull it off (not many people can). I still though Andy Lee showed good skills in the ring. He needs more work, but he will most definitely improve from this loss.
I think the problem comes when a fighter starts believing the hype that he is the uncrowned champion when he hasn't yet fought his way into the top ten. This loss will be good for Andy Lee. He will learn and come back better and stronger.
Like a previous poster said its up to the fighter, I don't care if instructions are printed on paper its the fighters job to get the advice and decide whether or not to take it. Lee would have won the fight had it not be stopped IMO
Strange contrast between Duddy and Lee. I think Lee resorted to his boxing in the end to win, Lee strayed away from the boxing that was serving him well and lost.
Okay -- I just lost all respect for Emmanuel Steward: ”Would I be worried about him fighting Kelly Pavlik? Sure I’d be worried – worried for Kelly. Andy will destroy him.” Manny!! PUT THE CRACK PIPE DOWN!!!! Boo
Are you just jealous your not smoking something as good as he is? :smoke Seriously, I may be wondering about his training abilities, but I don't think there is much debate about his 'promoting' ability. Maybe that is the trouble? He has forgotten which hat to wear? Is this his way of building Andy's confidence or to keep him from jumping ship like Taylor?
It is quite obvious that he wasn't listening to anybody for that fight. He even dropped his hands completely at one point and let Vega hit him atsch I could envision Manny foaming at the mouth in his corner
Exactly. His hype has ended. He realised he's made huge errors and now is the perfect time to correct them. Sure he can build himself back up again. It's better that this has happened now, than he had of continued winning and ended up with Pavlik with only 18 fights under his belt. He would of been slaughtered. Now he can go back to the drawing board and look forward to his rematch.
He's gotta be smokin' the best **** in the history of smokin' in order to be that freaking delusional! Andy lost to another prospect with a resume aproximatley equal to his own. Okay -- one loss at age 23 does not mean all that much, but the way Andy lost does. He got hammered repeatedly by a slow -- looping -- telegraphed -- right hand. Now imagine those right hands are coming from Pavlik -- straight down the middle with twice the power and twice the speed. Vera had some success with the jab as soon as he started doubling up on it in the 4th round. Now imagine that's Pavlik's double jab! Furthmore, he did not seem to have a clue how to keep Vera off of him. If he couldn't control the distance against Brian Vera, how the **** is he gonna do anything against a freight train like Pavlik? Steward is getting more and more delusional all the time. Boo
You can manage you can guide but ultimitely the performer has got to get it done if there is a problem if there is a challenge the trainer and fighter get together and come up with a solution. But ultimately the fighter has to have the ability to implement the plan.
